DukeOfURL
I just recently built this box, the motherboard supposedly supports DDR2-800 (Asus M2N32 SLI-Dx), and I got DDR2-800 ram from NewEgg, (2x512 XMS2 DDR-800) My question is, how do I confirm that the ram is actually running at 800 Mhz? I've heard that on some motherboards, if there's any problems, the ram falls back to 667.
DerekT
Download CPU-z http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-138.zip Look to your memory tab. The frequency will show there.

DukeOfURL
CPU-Z says that my memory is running at 368.3 MHz, should it not be running at 800 MHz? The SPD tab in Max bandwidth says PC2-6400 (400 MHz) I thought the ram I had was DDR2 800 which meant it ran at 800 MHz.

DerekT
CPU/6 is your CPU:Dram Ratio Your CPU multiplier is 11 therefore your CPU:RAM ratio is 11:6. Your DRAM has to run at a ratio or multiple of the CPU. You need to change the ratio to increase your DRAM speed. Enter your BIOS --> Advanced --> CPU Configuration Look for the Setting "DRAM Configuration" You will have the options of "AUTO", "DDR2 400", "DDR2 5433", "DDR2 667", "DDR2 800". Since you are running stock, you need to set this to DDR2 800.
DukeOfURL
I have made the adjustment, however cpuz still reports the memory speed as 368 MHz. Hmm...

shmakdawg
interested in how this got resolved...im having the same probelm but with just one stick. and i cant download that program that was posted, link doesnt work. i'm having a some trouble with the ram i got running at 667mhz rather than the 800mhz like its supposed to. im running a ASUS P5WD2-Premium mobo and the corsair XMS2-DDR (CM2X512A-6400). i noticed that in another thread someone said that maybe i need to go into the bios and change the settings to make it run at that speed but i am having absolutely no luck in finding these settings. i've tried contacting asus but they are too hard to get a hold of and i cant find anything on their site. what should i be looking for in the bios to change those settings?? some exact words would help. someone please help!! Actually, it hasn't been resolved, I just kind of gave up and ran out of time after a while. But I've been thinking of taking this issue up again. SmokinMr2
Derek was trying to help me with the same issue. You may not like the resolution... I've been dancing around with this for a couple months with ECS. Turns out it's an AMD problem. The am2 dual core 4200 that I have which runs at a multiplier 11 runs 800 MHz ram at 366.67 MHz by design... Since this processor doesn't 1/2 step (11.5) we are stuck either running it at a multiplier of 10 or 12 to get the memory to 400 (x2=800). Here's AMD's document on it. Pages 39-40. http://194.122.91.123/manual/32559_3_05.pdf If your bios lets you half step you may have some luck. My ECS bios doesn't and I can't manually set memory timings either...but that's a whole other can of worms.
DukeOfURL
wow, thanks. I hadn't persued that at all. I'll see what the bios lets me do and let you know.
