KimCrissman
I am considering a GIGABYTE GA-965GM-S2 mobo and I will put it in an Ultrafly Micro case with 450w power supply. Will the TWIN2X2048-6400 or TWIN2X2048-6400C$ work well with this system?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 9, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 9, 2006 You would need to check with the MB maker to make sure they can set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts with our XM2S Modules, other wise I would suggest VS2GBKit667D2 with this MB! KimCrissman
Ram Guy, Thanks for your help, but VS2GSDSKIT667D2 is PC-5300, not 6400 and therefore is not dual channel either. If I could expect 2G chips in the near future that run at the board's specs, I would consider 5300 now. But I suspect all of the bigger stuff will also require higher than 1.8v. I think the mobo can go up to 2.0, but I don't know about 2.1. Bummer!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 11, 2006 There is no such thing and Dual channel memory all you need is 2 modules that are the exact same part# and revision in the proper slots and dual channel will be enabled automatically! KimCrissman
No such thing as dual channel memory? So I have been suckered by the marketing team! I have read that users have run the XMS2 at 1.9 to 2.0 volts. Is that truth or also misinformation? Lastly, does Corsair offer 6400 for this board, or would it simply not worth the price difference? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 19, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 19, 2006 Dual channel is a function of the memory controller not the memory. We do make and sell kits of memory that are tested in a Dual channel MB but the memory in it self will not make the system duall channel! We test our XM2S-6400 and XM2S6400C4 modules at 1.9 Volts but many Intel chipset based MB's from testing them in our lab; many times need the voltage set to 2.0-2.1 Volts.
