BiggShooter
I'm planning on building a new PC very soon and want to complete my order this weekend. I've chosen the following motherboard, but have question on Corsair memory for this motherboard: ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Mobo - Intel LGA775 Platform - Intel® Quad-core CPU Ready - Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo Ready - Intel® Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D Ready - Dual-channel DDR2 800/667/533 - AI NOS™ / AI Gear / AI Nap - 8 Phase Power Design - Fanless Design - Heat Pipe & Stack Cool 2 - Array Mic / Noise Filter - WiFi-AP Solo I'm planning on using Cosair XMS2 DDR2 memory. I've narrowed my memory choices to the following: *CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4 *CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-8500C5 Question 1: Is the CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-8500C5 compatible with the ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Mobo? Question 2: Will using the DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) with the ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Mobo give me better performance over the DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)?? Question 3: Will I see a big performance increase or am I wasting my money by using the DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) over DDR2 800 (PC6400)?? Question 4: Will upgrading to the DOMINATOR offer any benefit?? Thanks for the clarification
Wired
Check compatibility here: http://compatible.corsairmemory.com will you be overclocking at all? what CPU do you have?
BiggShooter
I will have the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz CPU. I do plan to overclock the memory and CPU. I checked the compatibility list. I see that my specific memory that I'm looking at (TWIN2X2048-8500C5) is not listed. However the following memory is: (TWIN2X1024-8500 & TWIN2X2048-8500C5D). The memory I am looking at (TWIN2X2048-8500C5) is basically the same as the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D without the heatsink. Still looking for some ideas / opinions (Questions 2-4 in main post). Hopefully someone can help me out. I would like to order the memory today.
Gorganzola
Question 1: Is the CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-8500C5 compatible with the ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Mobo? Yes. Question 2: Will using the DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) with the ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Mobo give me better performance over the DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)?? Running the memory 1:1 with the FSB will result in better performance. Depending on what you do and your OCing plans, you may or may not notice a significant difference. Question 3: Will I see a big performance increase or am I wasting my money by using the DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) over DDR2 800 (PC6400)?? It depends on what you consider big. I realize that doesn't outright answer the question, but everyone is different. If you are looking to OC and get the best performance grab the PC2 8500. Also look at it this way, there is more longevity by going for the PC2 8500. You won't have to upgrade it later. Question 4: Will upgrading to the DOMINATOR offer any benefit?? The DOMINATOR class memory modules are carefully selected for their performance vs. the non-DOMINATOR class module give an extra edge in performance and overclocking. Thanks for the clarification  np, let me know if you need more clarification.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 5, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 5, 2006 Yes indeed thanks Gorgo, and this MB I doubt it will run the memory frequency much over about 1030 Mhz.
Gorganzola
I was trying to figure out where this 1033MHz maximum is coming from and I can't find anything on it. I looked for some reviews to find an answer and found a thread at Newegg showing someone running 1200MHz FSB with this memory and the Corsair PC8500. And then another review showing a BIOS update that got the overclock from 996MHz to 1140MHz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145030 http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/asus_p5b/12.html To expect the same performance out of the PC6400 memory is unrealistic. If you are looking for the best performance then the PC8500 stuff is where it is at.
BiggShooter
Yes indeed thanks Gorgo, and this MB I doubt it will run the memory frequency much over about 1030 Mhz. Hoping I can get some quick answers.....would like to order the memory ASAP Here is my system (MOBO & CPU): MOBO: Asus P5B Deluxe CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 MEMORY: TBD I want to overclock my CPU and MEMORY. I can't decide which memory I should get: *CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4 *CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-8500C5 RAM GUY / GORGANZOLA (and anyone else).....I plan to overclock the memory, as high as I can without having errors. If I understanding this right, I wouldn't be able to overclock the TWIN2X2048-8500C5 on the P5B Deluxe mobo since this mobo won't run the memory frequency much over 1030Mhz. Does this mean I wouldn't be getting the rated 1066Mhz using this mobo?? Would I even be able to overclock this memory using the mobo?? If this is correct, wouldn't it make more sense for me to get the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 and overclock it towards the mobo's max fequency of 1030 Mhz and get the same performance as the TWIN2X2048-8500C?? Right now, the price difference between the two types of memory is $120!! Big Difference in price...but how about performance?? Is it worth paying $120 more for the TWIN2X2048-8500C memory?? Thanks guys (and anyone else) that has taken time to reply and help me out!! :D:
Gorganzola
Post above. A lot also depends on the Northbridge and the CPU that you are using. If you don't want to the memory to be the bottle neck then I would go for the faster memory. But that is me.
BiggShooter
I will be using the Intel Core Duo 2 E6700 Processor with an Asus P5B Deluxe (P965 Chipset). Is using the TWIN2X2048-8500C5 worth the $120 increase from the TWIN2X2048-6400C4?? Would using the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 bottleneck my system vs using the TWIN2X2048-8500C5?? I just want to be satisfied with my purchase of memory for the ASUS P5B Deluxe mobo (example: order the TWIN2X2048-8500C5 and realize that the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 is nearly as fast for $120 less). Thanks Gorganzola and everyone else that has taken the time to respond. :D:
Gorganzola
I think in your case with your setup, either set will allow you to achieve your goal. The PC8500 set might catch you an extra 30-100MHz on the FSB depending on the quality of the northbridge on the board. Quite a wide margin for sure. The performance gain would likely be hardly noticeable for you other than in a benchmark. The only thing I can say is that the benefit of the PC8500 C5 is longevity. You'll only have to upgrade the motherboard should you want to down the road rather than the memory and the board to gain extra performance. Whether the extra $120 is worth it, is up to you.
