talon95
I'm reposting this here in the hope of getting a response. I'm trying to get 4 sticks to work in my DS3 as the title says. It won't even post unfortunately. I've updated the bios to F7 and even tried F8i, but no luck. Mem voltage is at 2.1v, I've tried 2.2 and 2.3 with no luck. I've got a mix of v1.1 and v2.1, which is probably part of the problem. The v2.1 sticks were not even stable by themselves until I flashed with F8i. 3x512 does work, even at 7x400 (2.8gig) with 4-4-4-12. What options do I have? Getting 2x1gig is the obvious one, but I'd rather not. Any suggestions welcome.

talon95
It's becoming obvious that I should have never bought Corsair, that's for sure. Given the fact that your supposed "tested" ram only works in my board with a *beta* bios (and the original v1.1 stuff works fine) and the threads going about the cheap a$$ PROMOS chips you're using now. If your memory is defective we will replace it as you have a lifetime warranty. The Gigabyte board you have has been problematic with ALL brands of memory, not just Corsair. And, an additional part of the problem is the mixing of revisions.
talon95
No, that's not the problem. The new v2.1 sticks were not stable at stock speeds ALONE in the board (2x512) with even the F7 bios. Only the F8i made them stable. The board did post in this case, but was not stable. Since they do work with F8i, that tells me that they are likely not defective (hence pointless to swap them out with identical parts), but just lower quality or at least have poorer compatibility than the older V1.1 sticks I have. The same is occurring with other MOBOs such as the Asus P5B series and with ALL brands of memory. The problem here is mixing the ICs. If you would like, contact customer service and see if there is any way they can help you get 4 matched DIMMs. I make no guarantee but, you are welcome to try. 888-222-4346
talon95
That is true, no argument there. Gigabyte has obviously been making progress. BUT, why should I need to go to F8i when your website says I only need F4 for them to work??? Do you think swapping them out will make them work with F4? Or even F7?? I'm technically running an unapproved bios to make your supposed "tested" product work at all.
Yellowbeard
Look, the purpose here on the forum is not to debate and criticize our testing methodology, which is the BEST IN THE BUSINESS. No other memory company even comes close. The purpose here is to satisfy the customer by getting you up and running ASAP. So, if you think your memory is defective, let's get it replaced. If you initiate an RMA, be sure to tell customer service that you have an existing set of memory and that you are running 4 DIMMs ( ie 2 TwinX pairs). They will need ALL the info from the stickers on the DIMMs. If this is not satisfactory, you have stated that both pairs seem to run stable individually. Therefore, you should contact Gigabyte tech support.
talon95
Yes, and the only way I got a response on this forum was to start being a PITA. BTW, mind specifying which chips are used on my new v2.1 modules? They wouldn't happen to be PROMOS would they?
Yellowbeard
Yes, and the only way I got a response on this forum was to start being a PITA. There's certainly no need for that:confused: Also, I need more information other than the revision number to determine your ICs. Use the link below. IC Inquiry Thread.
talon95
Well, Newegg was nice enough to wave the restocking fee, so the sticks are RMA'ed now. At least somebody stands behind what they sell...
Yellowbeard
Well, Newegg was nice enough to wave the restocking fee, so the sticks are RMA'ed now. At least somebody stands behind what they sell... Kudos to Newegg. :D: I offered 2 different times above to replace them for you and offered info on how to try to obtain a set with ICs to match your first set. Is there something more you wanted? If so, you did not make it clear but, I would be glad to offer further assistance.
