Replacement RMAd Drive Is S-L-O-W!

Hello all:

Just received my replacement drive last week and got around to testing it. I was copying some zip files (about 1.3 GB) and windows was reporting it would take 65 minutes and then the time kept increasing.

My old drive never did this and this is the drive I was just sent. I'm using the same machine so I don't know what's going on... any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Mike:

Was able to format the drive using Ez Recover (formatting through Windows XP didn't make a difference). As soon as I did this it seems to be working fine. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days.

Thanks again.

HEY! Thanks for passing that on as it sounds like some others here may benefit from something like that. I was thinking a DOS level format but, whatever works!

Thanks for choosing Corsair!

Hmmm... would you like me to try this at some point in the next few days? I've since tried and have found the following.

Copy 608mb, 2000 files (exactly) took 9m57s to complete.

Copy 4 folders, 305mb, 2151 files took 7m38s to complete.

Moving files on the key seems slow as well (almost as though it's copying in realtime).

Reading from the key is lightning fast.

This doesn't seem to add up. Any thoughts? I have no way of doing a true low-level format from DOS as I'm strictly using a laptop with Windows XP and no floppy drive or bootable CD. Any thoughts as to what to try next before I call customer service?

Thanks!

That does not seem out of line for the time it took to copy. What are you expecting?

Have you tried testing the drive with HD Tach to see what the performance is?

18.2MB/sec READ seems perfectly fine. It's the WRITE speed that's killing me. What can you recommend to test this as it's MUCH slower than it was prior to sending in my old drive.

Thanks.

I would run HD Tach and see what it says but the writes will be much slower!

That's what I stated above... read speed of 18.2MB/sec... write speed can't be determined with the software (not that I could see).

I'm just saying the write time is A LOT slower than my old stick that I sent back. I know the writes will be slower but they shouldn't be THIS slow (as stated above).
