zebibyte
I've been looking for a way to reduce the pump noise in my Nautilus 500 (which I think is great otherwise). In my browsing around, I noticed this from a post over at HardOCP. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTE1NTU5ODExMHhWSFNnWFdVVFJfM18xX2wuanBn It appears the pump in the 500 is mounted upside down. Notice what the manufacturer says NOT to do with the pump http://www.laing.de/file/113 It seems that the ceramic bearing wouldn't really be carrying the load if it's upside down, rather the rotor would be resting on a surface that's not designed to carry it. Any ideas/help? Suggestions on reducing pump noise? Thanks, Zebibyte
KaptCrunch
turn pump proper to get rid of the noise, or mount flat on the wall with hoses downward
parasite
i have my nautilus 500 on top of my case right now but thinking of buying a new case which does not have a flat top does the cooler have to be on the top or can it be sitting next to case i thought i read somewere it had to be above the cpu? CandyKid
Technically, it can be anywhere, HOWEVER, you WANT it to be the highest point in the loop! If not, then air bubbles can get caught in places they shouldn't be, killing your cooling efficiency. The highest part of any loop should really be the reserve tank which can collect bubbles and not re-introduce them into the loop. PLUR CK
zebibyte
turn pump proper to get rid of the noise, or mount flat on the wall How would I do this, if it's mounted upside down inside the Nautilus 500 unit? I was just wondering why Corsair would build the Nautilus this way, if the pump manufacturer specifically says not to run the pump upside down? It seems this would contribute to the pump noise, and lead to early failure.

zebibyte
Thanks for the suggestion on moving the unit around. I tried a couple of different positions, and there doesn't seem to be any difference. I did get some new air bubbles moving through the system when I tried it upside down. I'm not sure if I can get them all out of the system, I think it's just a space in the reservoir that moves around when the unit is flipped over. Anybody think it is worth the trouble to change the pump orientation? Will it help it last longer?
