shanru
I did some testing on my ram by using memtest for the reason of crashes and hard reboots while playing games and ended with these results. Tested both individually at different voltage settings ranging from 2.1v to 1.9v at 800mhz and at 667mhz, which was only on the 100532727. At 800mhz at 1.9v, both sticks did not have any errors, and at 2.0v, stick 1003322726 did not have errors. Also, I tested them at different slots and ended with similiar results. I have latest bios which is F7 and Core 2 Duo E6600 processor. The settings i used are present in the picture called "timings used." I read on the forums that the GA-965P-DS3 does not do well at 800mhz with this memory, but at 667mhz, it still produced the same errors. However, when i looked at the broads compatibility with certain memories, I saw that the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 is compatible but not the TWIN2X2048-6400C5 since this one is not listed. So, my question is are they bad or is the incompatibility causing the problem? Should I return these since i still have 10 days to return them and get the TWIN2X2048-6400C4. What would you suggest? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 15, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 15, 2006 Please set ‘Write to Precharge delay’ to 15 and the the memory Voltage to +.3 Volts all other settings not listed should be set to Bios default! Cas 5-5-5-12!
shanru
My computer just restarts right before it starts to load windows and get bsod that happens to quick too read when i changed write to precharge delay to 15 and voltage to +.3; however, when i changed the voltage to +.2 to see if something else was wrong, i was able to get into windows. i also changed write to precharge delay back to auto and kept the setting to +.3 to see if that was the problem and found it is not, so it seems like it doesn't like the +.3 setting. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 16, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 16, 2006 Please use http://www.memtest.org to test the system and that would suggest a power problem.
shanru
Its not because at +.3 setting the voltage becomes 2.2v since at normal voltage i read 1.9v from gigabyte's EasyTune5 program or is it giving me a false reading. what can i do to read actual voltage. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 16, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 16, 2006 The only way would be with a VOM or OScope!
shanru
I found a VOM laying around, but I am not sure how to use, since i do not know where to put the dial on or how to do the testing. I uploaded a picture to show if right one. Also, this is what i discovered. When left in normal or in +.1 setting in bios, easytune5 reports 1.9v in windows in either setting. When in +.2 in bios, 2.0v in easytune5. Now, when I used the the EasyTune5 program in setting the voltage to 2.1v, my computer all of the sudden restarted, so I tried it a second time, and it did it again. Also, to make sure easytune5 is not conflicting with with the bios settings, I uninstalled easytune5 and retried the +.3 setting in bios and still got the same result, computer restarts. So, I am not sure what you can conclude from this, but you said it may be a power supply issue. I am currently using the Antec 480 turepower 2.0, so I am going to try an extra power supply I have and will post results later. Also, could it be a problem with the ram or motherbroad not accepting the +.3 setting?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2006 The RAM should except the +3v. They were tested at that voltage before shipping.
shanru
Okay tried the extra power supply and it did not want to work with my video card. Probably because it is not pci express ready so to say. But, I did have another power supply, which was an antec trio since I thought it was a video card problem at first, thinking it was not supplying enough power to video card, so i returned and bought the antec 2.0, but still had same problem and figured it might be ram instead after i did a video card stress test and passed; however, I never tried it with the +.3 with the antec trio, since at first, I though normal was 1.9v, +.1 was 2.0v, and +.2 was 2.1v when i did the memtests, but I guess that was not the case like I mentioned before. So, should i buy another power supply and try again since my current one could be bad? Is it possible that the ga-965p-ds3 is picky with high end memory that requires voltages higher then 1.8v? Also, could the motherbroad be bad as well? By the way thank you for you time and effort in helping me.
shanru
Okay, I managed to get a hold of another motherbroad to test the memory with which was a ga-965p-S3, the other one being a DS3, and a different processor, the E6400, but still gave me the same errors with memtest and at +.3 setting and managed to get into windows but computer restarted in few minutes; however, I did the testing with the same antec 2.0 powersupply, but I will test the memory again once I get a hold of another powersupply, which will be very soon. And just to double check, the testing will also be done on an Asus P5B to see if its the motherbroads that are giving a problem. Nonetheless, I would like to know if I still use the same settings on the Asus P5B, 5-5-5-12, 15 to write to precharge delay, command rate 2T, and everything else auto, correct? shanru
Okay I tried it with a new powersupply (can not type in the powersupplie's brand name because it is being filtered out, which is O/C/Z), but still got the same errors when I test the memtest at +.3 settings.
