Ali_therock
Built the below system earlier today and have a problem with the memory. Originally the BIOS didn't have an option to change the CAS Latency and was defaulting to 5. The timings for this memory are 4-4-4-12-2T-EPP. I updated the BIOS which had a change to enable the user to change the CAS Latency. Prior to updating the BIOS the system was stable at 5-4-4-12-2T-EPP however when I set the RAM to run at CAS4 I don't get the POST screen and I have to clear the CMOS and start again. Anyone got any ideas or has come across this issue before? Thankyou.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 11, 2006 Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with this MB you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
Ali_therock
The BIOS is up to date, the original BIOS didn't even have an option to change the CAS, it was a revision that enabled this option, this leads me to believe it is a Motherboard problem but not a specific problem, just a general one with this board. I can confirm it also happens with Geil DDR2 RAM with identical timings of 4-4-4-12. Even running the CAS Latency at 5 it fails to boot. It will only boot when set to Auto. Is this something to do with the RAM being ECC?
Wired
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) is not ECC memory.
