septimus
Awhile ago I purchased one 1GB module of XMS PC3200 for my single channel motherboard. Later, I upgraded to a dual channel mobo and picked up another 1GB XMS PC3200 module. Today after some troubleshooting I found that the first module I bought produces thousands of errors in Memtest86+. The second module is good, no errors. I see that both modules are the same version, XMS3202v2.2 and even have the same lot code # on the label but they are not a TWINX kit (no TWINX label). The question is, should I RMA just the one bad module or send them both in so that they come back matched maybe?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 10, 2006 Can you tell me our modules part# and revision of each module, (How To Read the Memory Label) and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
septimus
Both modules are XMS3202 v2.2. They even have the same Lot Code. The computer is a Shuttle SN95G5 (SFF PC). The CPU is an AMD Opteron 146 running at 2GHz/1000MHz HT and the memory is at 200MHz and is set to "SPD" for timings. Actually, I am using the "Optimized Defaults" for all settings. I am not trying to set up an RMA through here, I can do that through TSXpress. I just want to know if it makes sense to send both modules in even though only one is found to be bad from Memtest86+ tests and they are not a TWINX kit. They were purchased separately but will be used in the same computer in dual channel mode.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 11, 2006 Yes of course, if one is failing and you send them in they should be replaced as a set. Other wise they might not match and with some MB's they wont post!
septimus
Ah I see! Defiantely do not want to introduce any kind of incompatibility. I will send both modules in at the same time even though one is fine. Athough this means my main computer will be out of comission while this goes thru... :sigh!:

septimus
Ah I will remember to do that next time, I already sent the memory in. No worries I have a backup laptop just for the occasion.
