wadam
I recently purchased a second Corsair XMS CMX512R-3200C2 to match the memory I already have in my computer for a small memory upgrade from 512mb to 1024. (Now I have two sticks of CMX512R-3200C2) When I plug it into my motherboard (Abit V17) my system does not recognize both sticks at the same time. I troubleshooted with the sockets and both sticks and they work individually but when together only 512 is recognized. Are there some kind of settings I could change in my bios to allow my computer to recognize both at the same time? Or is there anything else I could try? Thanks, Adam
Wired
Abit VI7Abit VT7 Neither supports Registered memory, although sometimes they'll work ok with just one stick.

Wtravis
So he would need to get rid of the first stick of memory and go for unregistered memory? Would it be best to just purchase a 1GB stick? Thank you, Wtravis
Yellowbeard
If you want 1gb or more of memory in the VI7, a PC3200 1gb DIMM or a PC3200 TwinX 2048 kit would be the best choice. Also, if you do not intend to OC, the Value Select line should work great also.
Wtravis
Isn't there some way we can get it to work? I checked with Wadam and he says he didn't register the memory. Did this happen online? I am confused as to why it won't work. Do they only want you to use one type of this memory or something? Can we buy another stick and not register it? Yellowbeard
Please watch the Memory Basics presentation. Registered refers to a type of memory, not the act of registering after purchase. You MOBO is designed to run unbuffered ( ie un registered) memory. For proper operation, you will need to purchase unbuffered and non ECC DIMMs.
Wtravis
So we went to the computer store and asked to buy Corsair. They said that since our computer wasn't good we should just get "generic" and that Corsair was a waste of money for most people. He said that Corsair was only for overclockers and would at most give us a few extra frames in a game. Is this true? We didn't buy anything yet, and I don't want to waste my friends money on a "Ambrecrombe and Fitch" brand (that's what he compaired it to), but I want to ensure he has the best memory for gaming. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2006 I would suggest our Value Select in that case VS2GBKit400C3 would be s good choice!
