Kspike
Hey, I want to preempt this by saying that I am fairly new to building machines, so it's very likely I made a mistake somewhere along the way. I built my machine recently, and it's running "ok" but not what I was expecting given the quality of parts. After the computer booted up for the first time, I noticed that the ram settings were at DDR2 667 with 5-5-5-18. So I read up on it, and found that I needed to set it to DD2 800 manually in the BIOS with 4-4-4-12 settings. I managed to do that, and I changed the voltage to 2.1 as directed to by the Corsair site. However, this seemed to decrease the performance of the computer noticably, even causing a few crashes after I made this change. I slowed down the memory to DDR2 711 and set the voltage to 1.9 and it seems to be running a little better now; however, this isn't a setting recommended by the site, and I don't want to jepordize my computer by running something that isn't recommended. What I want to do is run the memory at the speed which I bought it for, which the ASUS P5W DH deluxe *should* be able to support. What could be causing the massive slowdown when I try to run the memory at DDR2 800 at 2.1v. Oh, in case it is relevant, the power supply I am using is the Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails Other specs include E6700 Core 2 Duo, ATI 1900 XTX X-fire + ATI 1900 XTX, 250GB 7200 RPM harddrive. I'd really like to solve this problem, especially if I plan on building more computers in the future. Thank you, Martin
Yellowbeard
Do you have the latest bios installed? Also, can you test each module individually using http://www.memtest.org at your current settings?
Kspike
Yea, I ran Memtest last night, and found several errors. Specifically Memory error detected! Copying between 155be5f and 155bb2e did not result in an accurate copy. Memtest has detected that your computer cannot accurately store data in RAM. That is a copy of one of the errors. Sorry, I forgot to add that you must disable Legacy USB Support in the bios when running Memtest on ASUS MOBOs. Can you please run the test again on each individual module? Kspike
Ok, working on it now, I turned off the USB legacy and turned the Write from 4 clocks to 6 (as directed by Sean(sp)) from Tech support. It seems to be running ok now, but I still need to run a memtest. How do I go about doing that? (since the memtest I ran they told me was no good).
