tricky3k
In my current system i have 2x corsair cmx512 3200xl memchips. Ive now been offered to buy Corsair Value Select 2x512Mb (tot. 1GB) DDR PC3200 400MHz 184pin CL2.5 chips for a very nice price and im wondering. Will they work together at all? Generally how will memory/system performance be affected? Motherboard; msi k8n Neo4 platinum edition. CPU; amd64 2800+(clocked) Graphics adapter; Radeon x700

CPU; amd64 2800+(clocked) Graphics adapter; Radeon x700 Sorry, but with your platform you should not mix different memory modules. Your system will either suffer major problems down the road or refuse to even POST at all. In addition, the Value Select modules are not compatible at all with the 3200XL modules: They will refuse to even work together at all unless your system's memory speed is set to an extremely slow 100MHz (DDR200/PC1600) speed at loose 3-3-3-6 timings. tricky3k
Dammit ;( well thanx for the answer anyway ;) I find it hard to get a hold of the original 3200xl where i live and therefore they are kinda expensive atm would these ones work: Corsair CMX512-3200C2PRO XMS3200 512Mb DDR PC3200 400MHz CL2 PRO series with activity LEDs ? or Corsair XMS XPert TWINXP1024-3200C2 2x512Mb (tot. 1GB) DDR PC3200 400Mhz? Is there any way of telling byt the name if they will work together?
Wired
They are not the same part #, so they will not work together. How To Read the Memory Label
tricky3k
Ok lets see if i have this correctly now. I have 2xcmx512 3200xl memsticks in my comp atm. 2x CMX512-3200C2PRO will work with the memsticks i already have but with timings of 2.5-3-3-6? Wired
??? I specifically said that they are not the same part number, so they WILL NOT work together.

(Unless you want to drop your memory speed to half of its rated speed -- 100MHz/PC1600/DDR200 instead of the normal 200MHz/PC3200/DDR400 speed -- and much higher than rated latency timings, such as 3-3-3-7 instead of even 2.5-3-3-6.)
