Bad 4400c25?

I have exactly the same module issues as in the thread below:

http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54060

Running memtest & windows memory diagnostics shows no errors.

But in windows i get BSOD and all kind of error messages.

Default timings 200, 2.5,4,4,8 2T and 2.75v. However if i raise the voltage to

2.85v. No errors at all and 10h prime stable.

Bad modules, or what?

In otherwords, at 200 Mhz, 2.5-4-4-8, 2.85v, they are stable, correct? If so, try setting it back to 275 Mhz at the same settings, see what happens.

Im not sure if they are 100% stable. I will try with Prime (blend test) for 2

days, to be sure. Overclocking the modules anything over 230mhz is a no go.

Seems like the modules wants more voltage?, but 2.85v is as far as the m-board will go. I have tried almost everything:

Lowering the VDimm to default 2.75v is an immediate BSOD at boot. Switching modules to different slots and so on...

I would try and set the memory Frequency at 400 MHz and not over clock the CPU and set the timings to Cas 2-2-2-5 at 2.8 Volts and see if the system is stable. But with the CPU you have it may be whats holding you back!

Tried that, i get BSOD at boot. Then i tried with 2.5,4,4,8 2t vdimm at 2.85v.

its stable with those timings & vdimm. Under 2.85v, the system is unstable

know matter what timings or fsb.

The weird thing is that the system was stable before with 2.75v. All these

BSOD:s & windows errors came suddenly.

I know that amd winchester memory controller ain't the best.

I think the easiest thing is to upgrade to a Core2 Duo system instead of trying to find the cause to all these errors...

Thanks for your help.

Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 volts and then set the timings manually to Cass2-2-2-5 at 2T Command Rate, and then test the module/modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with this MB you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

One of the modules is bad.

Should i RMA both because it's TWINX1024, or just the broken one?

Tried again both modules 10hours with memtest. -No errors at all.

Over clocking up to 556mhz with timings 2.5.4.4.8 1T.... -No errors!

Both modules pass memtest, but one of them causes BSOD & corrupted files!

I think that memtest can't be 100% trusted?

I can't even boot to windows without max vdimm with the bad module!

Command Rate is not part of the specifications for this memory. Try 2T.

Yes, i know that. 1t or 2t makes no difference. Still passes memtest.

BSOD know matter what timings or vdimm with the "bad" module. How come

the "bad" module passes memtest?

10 hours memtest86+ (V.1.65) should be enough?

http://www.home.no/cleanstyle/memtest.JPG

I repeat:

Only one of the modules causes these Blue Screen Of Deaths (BSOD)....

The other one runs just fine at default vdimm 2.75v, default timings 2,5.4.4.8 2T. I tried in the same memory slot both modules and the bad one needs 2.85v to be able to boot into windows without BSOD.

No memtest errors, no RMA?

What should i do?

  • 4 weeks later...

Need my pc up & running. Its so slow with el cheapo 256mb ram right now.

I tried sending an email but no one answers! Btw:

No need for this kind of threads/posts, if corsair just would email when the ram modules are sent/received, or something.

Case #17472 RMA# R206855
