YellowDog
To All You Tech Guru's Out There. Now, I have read several threads realated to issues encountered while trying to run the Twinx2048-3200c2pt with the config. of 2.5 3 3 6 with a voltage of 2.75, however none seem to be hitting on the exact board and BIOS I have. I am not trying to O/C this machine, All I really want it to do is work, and work well. The issue I'm having is once it's put under a load, Ex. Playing BF2 for a few minutes, the game crashes, and at one point I got the blue screen of death followed by some kind of physical memory dump error. This Ram is listed as compatable with my MOBO, however, at this point im not sure its going to work.... Is there any advice you guys can give me to resolve this issue, As I do not want to be out a large amount of money I spent on RAM I can't get to work? "NOTE" I have tried to setup the bios with the correct settings, and still encounter the problem..If I set it to SPD = same issue. I also notice the program I am useing to check my setting is not showing the same CL rate, that Is set in the Bios???? CMC_SAVAGE
Have you tried 2.8 Volts? (warranty limit). How does the RAM run at 333MHz? Have you checked each stick with Memtest? Are you able to OC the CPU's FSB to 200?
Wired
In otherwords, the CPU's FSB and the memory have to run at the same speed.
YellowDog
OK, I've tried running memtest 4 times today and it crashes at some point.. when I return I have the good old windows message... The system has recovered from a serious error. and so on. The maximum that I can set my voltage at is 2.7, this is the highest option in the Award BIOS. I could OC the the CPU's FSB to 200, however, im not sure if I want to do this. I dont have much exsperience in overclocking my system and dont want to damage anything. I could increase the RAM to 333 Mhz to see what I get... Update.. I tried the RAM at 334 mhz.. took the ratio of 2:1, the Mother board wont Post.. All I got was a long Beep indicating and error. Reset the Cmos, and Im back up again.
Wired
Memtest doesn't run within windows, so I can't see how it could have caused a windows error. It's meant to only run from a boot disk.
YellowDog
Well, I googled Memtest and ended up with a Windows based free version... Guessing here that I got the wrong thing... if you havent guessed by now, I've never had a need to run Memtest so im not familliar with it at all. Could you post a link where I can get the version I need to run a complete memory diag ?

The setting in the BIOS for the RAM should be 166MHz. Your CPU only runs a 333FSB. Running out of sync can cause problems.

OK, I got what you were saying about the Ram... its now running at 166MHz. I can see why my first attempt crashed.. LOL 333 x 2 = 666 Mhz... Outch :) For a comparison.. before the change, BF2 may get a few minutes before crashing. After the change, I ran through 2 full rounds of play, 30 Minutes or so.. No crash. So Im on the right track. I did however run Memtest86 "Googled it", from a bootable CD last night... I let it run all night. This morning I did have 2 errors listed. This test was run on both sticks at the same time. TST__pass__Failing address_____________good______bad______count 8_____2____0002fa8889c4-___762.5 mb__00000000__000000ff___1 8_____5____000390bb574-____912.6 mb__00000000__000000ff___1 Im guessing to get a true test I need to have all the correct settings to ensure the ram is running correctly, and run the test on 1 stick at a time? Would it be better to try and run the Proccessor's FSB at 200MHz, this way i can run the RAM at 200 MHz. as it was specified to run at this speed? Im assumuing that by droping the RAM to 166MHz I am in fact under Clocking it? The whole purpose in getting this RAM was to get the most out of it, so Im looking at all my options here. You need to rule a possible bad stick first. If both sticks check out OK, then OC'ing your CPU could be an option. I've seen plenty of 2800/3000(333MHz) Barton cores OC to 400MHz with no problems. If you can, then running the RAM at 400MHz shouldn't be a problem.

I did get the BIOS updated, and this resolved the conflict I was seeing in the Windows based program CPUZ, "this seems to be a handy little tool to show where everything is runnig at" It seems the BIOS was not allowing the CL rate of 2.5, after the update, its keeping the timing that Corsair specified, 2.5 3-3-6  (What works) Running the RAM at 166MHz, with the CPU at stock settings, 166MHz, 12.5 multiplier, and 333 FSB works fine. No problems that I have detected. (What I tried) Running the RAM at 200MHz 1:1 ratio, with the CPU Bus at 200 MHz, 11.0 Multiplier. and a FSB of 400. This setup seems to have some problems. "HEAT" Running up around 65-70.C, when under a load like BF2. Caused the game to crash. I have A thermaltake fan with brass heatsink running at 3200 RPM, I can increase the speed (Will this Work) Running the CPU at a lower Multipier and increasing the Bus above 200, Will this make a diffrence in the heat generated by the CPU? Also if im right on this, it will push the Frequency on the RAM above 400. My MOBO has a FSB of 400MHz also, so I got a feeling this will not work. Just thinking out loud here. YellowDog
OK, l’ve done some reading, and here’s where I’m at, and going to stay if it works. Multiplier 10.5, Bus at 200, = 2100Mhz, or an AMD 3000+ " Not as much OC, and still gives me the 400MHz the Ram was intended to run at. (In the event I have trouble running this setting) Under Clocking this very nice RAM to 333Mhz would be a shame, but that’s what I get for trying to go for something nice, while the rest of my Machine is outdated, and on a budget. LOL Any thoughts guys?
Wired
Memtest86+ v1.65 would be the correct one to use FYI.
