pandlouk
Hello. I have purchased 3 years ago a pair of twinmx 1024 (2x512) 3200xlpro from an online reseller http://www.atm.it/ Now after almost 3 years one of the modules is driving me crazy. Once or twice a week for the 2 last months, after I turn off or reboot my pc, the mainboard an msi kt880 delta with the latest bios, does not recognize the total memory 1024mb but only one of the modules 512mb. I have tested the rams separately and they work. But if I add them both sometimes recognize them and sometimes it doesn't. ps. I noticed that whem I take of the mainborad the rams and place them again in, then when I turn on the system one of the modules initially has one of its orange lights (in the midle of the ram) on. does it mean it has a bad block? And if yes is there a way to fix it? Thank you very much for your time. Best regards, Panagiotis
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 4, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 4, 2006 Can you test the modules in another system, because it would usually be a MB problem if the modules are intermitant?
pandlouk
Hi Ram Guy, thanks for replying. At the moment I cannot test it in another system. But I tested on this mb another pair of rams and they work without any problems. I didn't answer earlier because I wanted to do further testing of the twinx modules with all the possible combinations of the slots 1-2,1-3,2-3 twice (for example putting module A of RAM in slot 1, module B in slot 2 and the opposite B in slot 1 and A in pslot 2). In all the 6 combinations it is always the same module that gets disabled. When placed at 1-3 (dual mode) usually gets disabled after a reboot. When placed at 1-2 or 2-3 (single mode) it locks my pc when I enter windows and then after a forced reboot gets disabled. The fact that always the same module gets disabled makes me believe that it must be the ram that is problematic and not the motherboard. (I have used a little piece of postit over the leds to distinguise them).
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 7, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 7, 2006 Also can you tell me the bios settings for CPU and memory?
pandlouk
Hi,I have forgotten to mention that if the module gets disabled during the boot time the motherboard shows sometimes or 9 mb or 476 mb or 756 mb of memory. Then after a reboot it disables this one module and show the 512mb of the module that still function. Well I have tried the following combinations:----------------------------------------1.(2 combinations)CPU FSB Frequency = 133Adjust CPU Ratio = 12,5x./13xCPU Voltage = 1,350 Adjust DDR Memory Frequency = 266 MHz = By SPDMemory Voltage = 1.65DRAM Timing = AutoVlimk 8x Supported = Enabled---------------------------------------------------2.(All the following combinations)CPU FSB Frequency = 166Adjust CPU Ratio = 11x = 12x = 12,5x./13xCPU Voltage = 1,350 = 1,650 Adjust DDR Memory Frequency = 266 MHz = 333 MHz = 400 MHz = By SPDMemory Voltage = 1.65 = 1,70 = 1,75DRAM Timing = AutoVlimk 8x Supported = Enabled--------------------------------------------------------3.(All the following combinations)CPU FSB Frequency = 200Adjust CPU Ratio = 9x = 10x = 11xCPU Voltage = 1,650 = 1,675Adjust DDR Memory Frequency = 400 MHz = 333 MHz = By SPDMemory Voltage = 1.65 = 1,70 = 1,75DRAM Timing = AutoVlimk 8x Supported = Enabled--------------------------------------------I have spend a great amount of time testing the system in this last two months. :[pouts: It all started on the first week of Settember  I didn't post earlier because I could not figure out if it was the mb or the ram. But now that I have seen that it is always the same module that gets disabled it seems that it has to be this RAM. But I cannnot understand why initially it works and only later stops to fuction
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2006 Please go to Bios setup and load setup defaults and then set these settings and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. CPU FSB Frequency = 133 Adjust CPU Ratio = Default/Auto CPU Voltage = Default/Auto Adjust DDR Memory Frequency : 100%/1-1= 266 MHz Memory Voltage = 2.75 DRAM Timing = Manual/User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T
pandlouk
Ok I will. For how much time should I test each module? 1 Day is enough? And which test I should use? The default settings or should I modify them? ps. If I set the "Adjust CPU Ratio" at the default (which is 14x) the mb sets its at 5x if I am not mistaken. Should I put it at a value "12,5x/13x" instead? This way will run as an 2200+ mobile. edit: Today as a last resource I unplugged the power supply and left the pc unplugged for 5 hours. During this time I cleared the cmos 4-5 times. Now the system seems to work again normally. I turned it off/on 5-6 times and rebooted it about 15 times. The problem did not appeared. Should I wait for a week to see if the problem appears again or should I run the tests?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2006 That might suggest a problem with the MB or PSU or maybe because you are usig a CPU that was made for a Notebook. But you should test them with the settings I gave you and just use the default tests. And yes please set the CPU to Auto or its default settings if its unlocked. pandlouk
Ok I will run the test at each module and will report again the results.

pandlouk
Hi RAM GUY, I followed your instructions and tested the modules one at a time after clearing the CMOS. Here are the results. 1. First I tested the module that I suspect is problematic. At the first attempt the system could not post. The MB start to "bibing" as when a bad ram or no ram is installed at the system. This was confirmed by the 4 leds that has this mb to identify the problems. I unpluged the ram cleared the cmos tried again. The same problem this time. The system could not post and start with the bib sounds. The same happend at the third attempt. At the 4th time I tried unplug/replug the system posted normally. I run the tests for 15 hours without a problem. No errors. 2. I installed the good module, cleared the cmos, etc. The system posted fine at the first attempt and tested it for 4 hours without problems. No errors during the tests. 3. I tried to install both modules for running the tests. And the problem appeared again. The mb sees only the good module and not the problematic. No what should I do?:[pouts:
pandlouk
After the above post I tried again and again to istall both modules. After retrying 10 times unplugging/replugging the problematic module, the motherboard recognized them. I enter in windows and in internet for posting here and before logging in at the forum the system stopped responding. I look from the trasparent window of the tower and I see that the on the good module all the leds are on, but on the bad module the leds are off. It is disabled again only 5 minutes after I turned on the system.   And my question is the following. If the problem resides at the mb then why the other module is recognized normally? They are Twinx series. If it is the motherboard the problem, then why it recognizes the other identicall module with no problems at all?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 10, 2006 Let's get them both replaced. Please use the RMA request found in TSXpress or follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! And please note that you are from the forum! pandlouk
Thank you, thank you, thank you:D: I have three questions: 1. I don't remember where I placed the plastic box that contained the twinx rams. I'll check aroud but if I don't find it, is it ok if I rap them with the special plastice-bubled paper? 2. Should I use a post-it or something for indicating the bad module since I have identified it? 3. On the RMA request, I must open a new thread right? I should check the option "Ramguy has already helped me on the Support Forums ... " or "Memory: XMS2, VS, CMSS"? In this second I don't see my TWINX1024-3200XLPRO. What should I choose?
