CrEAQ
** Edit ** - I'm not sure why it didn't, but this was supposed to be posted in this thread: http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53745 I have the same MB/RAM combination and am having similar difficulties. My CPU is an Athlon 64 3500+. When I use either module alone in Single Channel 64 bit mode, in any slot, they work fine. But when I put both modules in they are recognized as Dual Channel 128-bit just fine, but when the OS (XP Pro) begins to load the GUI, it Blue Screens and reboots. I have tried the modules in different slots and in different configurations with no change in the behavior. After reading this thread, I began to suspect that I had a bad motherboard as well. Therefore I ordered a new one and installed it. Unfortunately, I experienced the same behavior as above. So, I'm beginning wonder about the modules themselves. Now, the individual Modules are definitely supported on this motherboard, but I don't believe that two of them running in Dual Channel mode are. Please correct me if I am wrong. If this is the case, please suggest the best option for memory in this case. Thank you for any assistance.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 1, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2006 Can you tell me bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? And what is the make and model of your PSU?
CrEAQ
The BIOS settings are at default of AUTO for both CPU and memory. I had toyed with the settings such as forcing it to DDR2 800 and locking the voltage to 1.9, but none of the changes had any effect. I therefore reset the BIOS to factory default of all AUTO. I have no plans of OC'ing anything at this point, I just would like to be able to use the full 1GB of memory rather than one module at a time. I understand the timings recommended for these are 5-5-5-12. But I have been out of the PC building game for while and I don't understand how to configure the timings as there are more than 4 items that I can modify in the BIOS in regards to DRAM timing. Could you fill me in on this notation or provide a link to a good explanation of them? Thank you. The power supply is the one included in the case: Apevia X-QPack. It's a 420W PSU. The specs are all listed here: http://aspireusa.net/product.php?pid=143&xcSID=4ca10ce337845a3dcd8e1c13895bdcfa If there is anything else I can say that would be of help, please let me know. Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 1, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2006 The problem you have posted would suggest some other problem, especially if both module will run and pass http://www.memtest.org one up. Can you test them in another system?
CrEAQ
I have not run memtest against it yet as I believed the problem to be with the motherboard. The earliest chance I will possibly have to run the tests will be this weekend. I will run it against both modules together and separately. Unfortunately, I do not have access to another system that takes DDR2 800 memory so that option is out :(: I'll post my results of memtest this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion. CrEAQ
Ok. Apparently, I have a bad module. When both were in, I receive an incredible number of errors. With the original module in, no errors. The second one alone still showed an incredible number of errors. I'm not sure why it worked without problems alone before. I will need to get this memory replaced of course. I'm wondering if it would be better for me to get it replaced through the original reseller or should I go through Corsair direct? Thank you for your assistance. It has been appreciated. When I get new modules, I'll let you know how it turns out.
