computerguy312
I liked the TWINX2048-3200C2PT set so much that I bought a second to run my system with 4gigs (needed the memory bandwidth for research I'm doing). I originally came here for timings information and was told to set it to 2-3-3-6 with 2.75V and 1T Memory Timing (see http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44841 ). Now that I have 2 sets of them installed, 4 sticks total, should any of the settings change?

You will need to use 2.5-3-3-7 timings with 2.80V and 2T with 4 sticks due to the significantly increased loading on the memory controller. You may also have to drop your memory clockspeed to DDR333/PC2700/166MHz instead of DDR400/PC3200/200MHz with your CPU.
computerguy312
Thanks, I'll try that. Side Question: I know windows has problems detecting/showing more the 3gigs of ram, but I just booted in Ubuntu, and it also can only see 3gigs of ram. I would have thought any Linux distribution wouldn't have this problem. Is there a setting I can change to support this? I am running the 32bit version of Ubuntu. Unfortunately, all 32-bit operating systems - be it Windows, Linux or Mac OS - have the limitation in which the OS will see significantly less than 4GB of memory due to the fact that all 32-bit OSes reserve the upper memory registers for hardware PCI interrupts. You will need to run a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit OS in order for the OS to see all 4GB of memory.
computerguy312
Thanks, I think nows a good time to upgrade to ubuntu 64 so this might work out anyway. Going back to timings, the ddr speed automatically dropped by notion of the architecture and I figured the voltage should go up at least a little. But I'm still running with 2-3-3-6 (2T timings also automatically switched from 1T). Is it guarenteed I'll need to change this? For example if I can run MemTest86 and 2 x Prime95 for hours on end, is this sufficient to say that I can keep tighter timings without worry. BTW I'm running a dfi expert ut lanparty nvidia4 with a 4800+ X2 amd chip.

You will have to manually reset it to DDR400 in the BIOS if you want to run your memory at its full clockspeed.
computerguy312
Are you saying it can be put back at ddr400 with 4 sticks present? Or if I were to go back to 2 sticks I should remember to change this back to ddr400? I did know about the ddr speed drop before installation so I wasnt surprised at this. RJLeong65
Are you saying it can be put back at ddr400 with 4 sticks present? It can. But depending on your CPU's memory controller, it may or may not run stably at that speed with a fully loaded memory configuration.
computerguy312
I can give it a shot, the nice thing about DFI board is that memtest86 is built into the bios for initial stability testing. About my question about timings, if I can run thru stable tests at 2-3-3-6, is there any reason why I shouldnt be able to keep these timings permenantly? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2006 As long as the system is stable you should be fine!
computerguy312
I'm having trouble determining stability. The computer boots fine, runs for hours, and I can run MPrime torture tests (2 instances running) for hours at a time with zero error. BUT, when I run the MemTest86 selectable from my BIOS it fails at very specific memory addresses (286.4, 536.3) right away. Could this be an addressing error because its 4gigs? For example, in order for the BIOS to read the settings I had to flip the MMIO addressing switch. The other thing that leads me to believe this is just a program error with memtest86 is that I moved my system into loose timings with no change in result. Anyone have experience running this program in 64 bit mode with 4gigs that has seen behavior like this?
Wired
Tried memtest that isn't built in? Also, what's the version # of each TwinX pair?
computerguy312
Not yet, I was wondering if there was a special version I needed for 64 memory addressing up to 4gigs or if the regular one was known to be problematic.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 31, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 31, 2006 I would try the latest version of memtest from http://www.memtest.org and see if you get the same results!
