Bad mem again?????

Recommended Posts

Hello. Ok I will try to explain my problem. I have a Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo currently running 2 512 sticks of Corsair memory. I have those 2 on slots 2 & 3. I recently asked Corsair for a RMA which they kindly gave me and sent me another stick of memory (VS1GB400C3). Ok so I pop that stick in slot 1 (The black slot) and I get BSOD's. I popped that stick in my other PC and I immediately get a blue screen as it booted up. Is it possible that I got another bad stick of memory or what? Please let me know if more info is needed as this is really annoying me.

Ok I have BIOS version 1013. In the advanced chipset features page of the BIOS it says:

CPU external Freq. (Mhz) 200 Mhz

CPU frequency multiple setting (auto)

cpu freq. multiple (11.0x)

system performance (user defined)

memory timings (user defined)

sdram active precharge delay (8)

sdram ras to cas delay (3)

sdram ras precharge delay (3)

sdram cas latency (3T)

fsb spread spectrum (disabled)

agp spread spectrum (disabled)

cpu vcore setting (auto)

cpu vcore (1.650V)

graphics aperture size (128mb)

agp freq. (auto)

system bios cacheable (disabled)

video ram cacheable (disabled)

ddr reference voltage (2.7V)

agp vddq voltage (1.5V)

agp 8x support (enabled)

agp fast write capability (enabled)

The video card I have is ATI Radeon x700 Pro agp

The cpu is running at 2.21 Ghz

Also if I forgot to mention my PC currently has the 2 512 sticks of Corsair and it runs perfect. Those are in slots 2 & 3. It's just when I pop in that extra 1 gig of Corsair mem the system becomes unstable and get blue screens. I tried that 1 gig on another PC I have here and immediately it became unstable also and got a blue screen. If any more info is needed please let me know and thanks again.

First thing, you cannot mix memory with most MB's and because of loading on the memory controller you might have to run the memory at DDR333.

But I would suggest testing the mew module by it self with these settings as long as you have a True 3200+ CPU.

Set the CPU FSB jumper furthest away from the CPU pins 1-2 if I remember correctly and then load setup defaults with the new module in slot one by it self and then set the settings and test with http://www.memtest.org.

CPU external Freq. (Mhz) 200 Mhz

CPU frequency multiple setting (auto)

cpu freq. multiple (11.0x)

system performance (user defined)

memory timings (user defined)

sdram active precharge delay (8)

sdram ras to cas delay (3)

sdram ras precharge delay (3)

sdram cas latency (3T)

fsb spread spectrum (Bios Default)

agp spread spectrum (Bios Default)

cpu vcore setting (auto)

cpu vcore (1.650V)

graphics aperture size (128mb)

agp freq. (auto)

system bios cacheable (Bios Default)

video ram cacheable (disabled)

ddr reference voltage (2.7V)

agp vddq voltage (1.6V)

agp 8x support (Bios Default)

agp fast write capability (Bios Default)

If the system will pass http://www.memtest.oreg then add the other modules in slots 2-3 and go thru the same steps and let it run for 2-3 passes.

K I have tried everything in my power to try and make this stick of memory work. And it doesn't. This is the 2nd time that I receive faulty memory. I have even tried installing in other PC's which i know work and it fails. I have tried also the mem stick by itself and it fails again. Very annoying dealing with this since I can't get nothing done here because of this. I wish I could get my money back to buy from another company but I know this isn't going to happen so I guess I need another RMA#. If the next stick dont work I guess ill throw in trash and just forget about Corsair and go with another brand.
