dead horse upgrade

First of all, sorry if this topic is like beating a dead horse. I am running a MSI Neo2 Fis2r 865pe motherboard with Twinx1024-3200llpt as a graphics intense workstation.

I browsed the forums but I couldn't find the answer for my specific question. I would like to bump up the memory to 2 gb, but I noticed the llpt series has been discontinued for about 2 years. So far I've narrowed it to my IC's are Samsung TCCD. Knowing it's not recommended to mix and match modules, by chance would it be possible to pair my existing Twinx1024-3200llpt with Twinx1024-3200xl since the IC's are supposedly the same? If not, what problems will they propose? Instability?

Also, I remember reading 2 pairs of Twinx on a setup are a no-no. Please explain.

You can try it, but I doubt the MB will be able to run at the tested settings, you may have to set the timings to Cas 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.8 Volts to make the system stable. I would suggest just replacing the modules you have now with one Twinx2048-3500LL for best performance!

:D: Thanks Ram Guy! Your solution was my next best bet, to upgrade to a single pair of 2 gb and take the burn for my existing memory. Anyhow, I was looking into either the Twinx2048-3500LLPRO (2-3-2-6-T1) or the Twinx2048-3200C2/PT (2-3-3-6-T2) . I don't see the non-pro LL's anywhere...

For my graphics usage, would there be a significant difference between the LL, LLPRO, C2/PT? I am drooling over the 3500LLPRO, also because my jaw dropped once I saw the price @ the limited resellers.

Now I am at the crossroads... Would it be wiser to upgrade now or later? Should I spend nearly $400 for LL or $285 for C2 for my existing system? Or should save up to build a better system in the near future?

These questions are hard to answer because there are some things I don’t know and you may not either.

But to kind of high light some things,

If you are an over clocker or you plan on over clocking I would suggest Twinx2048-3500LL other wise you may not be happy end result.

However, if you have not over clocked before and just want to dabble in over clocking then Twinx2048-3200C2 may be a good choice, not as much cost but still a little margin to play with.

And if you will not over clock at all I would consider VS2GBKit400C3 and save your money for the new or next system!

But its totally your choice and I am here to help you no matter what you decide!
