daveleff
I've been using 1GB of XMS3200 for some time with no problems in an ABIT AS8. Last week I ordered another 1GB of XMS3200 using the Corsair configurator for the selection. First off, adding the 2 new modules prevented the system from posting. Removing the old memory and booting with just the new memory also prevented a post. Booting with just one stick of the new memory and it posts OK. Swap sticks and boot with just the other stick and all is well. So here's is the problem - insert either single stick of the new memory, and it will post OK showing 512MB memory. Insert both sticks, and it won't post at all. No combination of the new and the old memory will post. Heres the numbers for the sticks - original memory works fine - CMX512 3200XLPT XMS 3208V1.2 XMS 3200 512MB 400MHZ 2.2.2.5 new memory - either single stick works but not both, and never in any combination wth the older memory above - CMX 512 3200C2PT XMS 3202V5.2 XMS3200 512MB 400MHZ CL2 So whats wrong here? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 24, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 24, 2006 You can try and add to what you have, but I doubt the MB will be able to run at the tested settings, you may have to set the timings to Cas 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.8 Volts at DDR333 to make the system stable with four modules. I would suggest just replacing the modules you have now with one Twinx2048-3500LL for best performance! If you do add to what you have now you would need to match the part# and revision of what you have now! Sorry but you cannot mix memory with most MB's today! Thanks, but there doesn't appear to be an option to select DDR333. More to the point it isn't a mix'n match problem. The new ram only ever works if either single module is used on its own. Use both modules together (after all they are sold as a pair) and the system won't post! Regards, Richard
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 26, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 26, 2006 Richard, I am sorry but I would never suggest mixing memory with any MB but especially not with AMD 64 based system because they will often times not post with miss matched memory! I thought I was clear about that with what I posted before sorry if not!
daveleff
Reading through the forum I now see that you mention the problem of mixing memory. However, when I bought the memory based on the corsair configurator, I though I was buying the same memory. The AS8 is an LGA 775 board. This is not a problem of mixing modules - If I remove all memory from the computer and then insert just 1 of the new modules, then the system will work with that 512 stick. If I then swap the moduel for the other new module, then that also works. However, if I insert both new module (no other memory present, no mixing) then the system will not post. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2006 Richard, You cannot mix memory with this platform, all of the modules need to be exactly matched, there is a statement about it in the user manual! What is the part# and revision of all of your modules please?
daveleff
The modules were returned and new modules sent to me. Still don't work. Nothing to do with mixing different modules revisions etc. Even on its own, THE NEW 1GBTWINX DOES NOT WORK IN THE ABIT AS8-V. Thats despite being recommended by the Corsair memory advisor AND listed as AS8-V compatible on the ABIT website - http://www2.abit.com.tw/test_report/AS8_Series/memory.php Regards,
Wired
RG, he's repeatedly stated that he was never mixing memory. dave, Try resetting your BIOS to defaults, and then setting the timings / voltage. I'm assuming you're trying them in the same slots the 3200XLs used to be in?
daveleff
Thanks wired, Yes I tried the same slots, reset bios, tried a range of timings/voltages as suggested on other threads on this forum, but nothing will get the modules to post. With the first set I could put one module in at it would post as 512MB. With the newest ones I can't even do that. Same slots and other configs tried, but not a thing!
