akypoon
Hello, Recently I received replacement RAM from Corsair. The RAM model is TWINX 1024-3200 C2 (DDR400 dual channel kit, 512MB x 2, rev.4.1), my motherboard is Asus A8N-E (with BIOS 1013) and my CPU is AMD Athlon64 3200+. I am using Windows 2000 SP4. The system is not overclocked. The RAM passes memtest86. I have been testing the replacement RAM for over a week. I noticed that my system has an extremely slow startup time (takes about 5 minutes minimum) during first bootup, but the problem will go away if I do a warm reboot (just restart inside windows). My normal startup time should be around 1 minute. I tried different BIOS configuration for the RAM, including auto detect timing/voltage, forced factory defaulted timing/voltage, recommended timing/voltage as suggested on Corsair's page and turned on BIO memory test. The problem persists, unfortunately. Has anyone experienced this before? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 20, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 20, 2006 If you are not getting errors in memtest I would suspect some other issue. Did you update any driver or bios on your system? And or have you installed any new software?
akypoon
If you are not getting errors in memtest I would suspect some other issue. Did you update any driver or bios on your system? And or have you installed any new software? I have done a clean install on my system. So the OS and drivers are the latest ones. No changes to BIOS. I am suspecting this maybe a new compatibility issue introduced in rev. 4.1 (somehow the motherboard needs 2 probes to get the timing right)? My old RAM was rev. 1.1 and I don't have any problems before. Any help would be appreciated!

akypoon
As a last ditched effort before I RMA these RAM again, I tried to swap their position on motherboard. Somehow the problem goes away (for now). I am not sure how to explain this. I guess I will hold on to the RMA request for now and see if the problem will return. Thanks for the help! akypoon
I have observed my switched RAM for over a week. The slow down problem is still around. In addition, I also observed that my RAM seems to get hotter than before my old pairs of RAM. I am using voltages that are acceptable in the Corsair recommended range (2.65-2.75V) and I have adequate cooling inside my case. I think I will switch RMA my RAM as suggested. Will Corsair cover the round trip shipping fees? Thanks!
