Bad memory diagnosed by tech

I took my system into a local computer store for tech support due to problems with the system randomly rebooting. It was rebooting too much for me to even download a ramtest.

The shop got luckier and had the system running for 20 some minutes and they reported that memory tests on one of the two 512 sticks was bad. I don't know what memory test they ran, but the computer did reboot again right after the test. The computer is running fine (although slow) with the remaining 512 stick. They did a stress test on it for several hours without any reboots with the bad stick removed.

The ram is:

CMX512-3200C2PT

XMS3202v1.5

I purchased the memory as a pair from Newegg on 7/18/05. Their warranty lasts only 1 year. Are they an authorized reseller for that date? I could not find that information on your site.

What do I need to do to get this RMA'd? I would rather not have to run further tests as the system seems extremely unstable with that stick in it. I could contact the computer store for information on what memtester they used if you need that information.

Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

Motherboard is an MSI K8NGM2

CPU is AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.0GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3200BPBOX - Retail

I don't know the FSB for either of those really. The motherboard box says that it has a 1ghz cpu fsb and supports DDR400/333.

I don't have time to check the bios settings right now. I don't have an extra monitor so I would have to swap them out with another system and I have to be getting back to work.

I will make another post with that information later.

To my knowledge all the settings for timings and speeds are whatever the MSI factory defaults were, unless the tech changed them.

Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, (Cas 2-3-3-6) and then test the module/modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with this MB you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
