pcguy Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Currently have an Asus A8V Deluxe w Athlon 4400+ X2 CPU and value select dual channel 2x512MB kit. Would like to increase the total memory to 2 GB but would like to be able to go beyond the 2 GB in the future. As I understand it this motherboard will not run memory at 400Mhz if all 4 slots are populated with double sided memory. As well it is not advisable to mix memory and that all of the memory has to be the same CAS and make. What if I purchase a 2x1GB kit without betting the farm? Would I be limited to using the same p/n when I wanted to increase the amount of memory in the system in the future? This computer is doing SQL database work rather than gaming.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted October 2, 2006 Depends on the core of the CPU you have but in your case the more memory might be an advantage even if it is running at a slower clock frequency!

Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 3, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted October 3, 2006 If its E3 or E4 then DDR333 would be suggested if its E6 then you should be able to run at DDR400 at 2T Command Rate!
