Derfele
Ok, mb died, upgrading to Asus A8N32-SLI. I have 2 sets of TwinX 1024 3200C2 ram (worked fine in old mb -GA 8KNXP-SLI). Thus I have a potential total of 2 gb using all 4 dimms. Now, the Corsair Memory Configurator says this ram will work fine... My question is can I use both sets utilizing all 4 dimms? Or am I better off using just one set of them? It seems a waste to only use 1 set, thus 1 gig instead of 2, but looking around it seems once you populate all 4 dimms, trouble finds you...like monkeys on bananas. Whole lot of noise, lots of hair, you slip over and your bananas are gone. Any advise would be appreciated, Cheers, Derfele.
Derfele
Just wondering if anyone can help out. I want to make a decision asap on what to do... Do I buy the A8N32-SLI & use the memory I've got, or will I need to suck it up & get new stuff like TwinX 3500LL ?? Obviously it is cheaper if I get both from the same Vendor, at the same time...postage and all. Cheers
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 2, 2006 I would try it and see what happens, but yes you would get best performance with one set of Twinx2048-3500LL instead.
Derfele
Thanks RAM Guy. Appreciate your efforts. Should I re-set anything? With 4 dimms populated --> eg: Timings to slower than 2.5-3-3-6? Voltage to 2.8 Volts? (I think this is the highest Corsiar recomends & still keep warranty?) Cheers.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 2, 2006 Yes I would try those settings and just test with http://www.memtest.org to make sure its stable. But you will need to disable legacy USB when running http://www.memtest.org with that MB.
Derfele
Thanks mate. I'll give it a go at 2.5-3-3-6 (default ram timings) And I'll increase volts to 2.8v Run Memtest. If it isn't stable, I'll try timings of 3-3-3-8 & see how we go. **Note: for the moment a friend has lent me an Asus A8N-SLI, so I will give it a try there. Not sure what legacy USB is, but will switch off. Cheers
