bbarker Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 When 8GB Flash Voyager is plugged into USB port, Explorer adds a hard-drive icon in the folder tree but the volume name and drive letter fields are blank. To see the volume name and drive letter, you must bring Explorer down and back up. Then everything is OK - until drive is removed and plugged back in. OS is Windows XP Pro. Three other flash drives are used on the system (******** Rally 4GB, XXXXXXXXX DataTraveler 2GB, SimpleTech 512MB), all are formatted FAT32, and none of them have this problem. How do I fix this?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 30, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 30, 2006 I would try and format the drive with Fat32 and see if the problem persists. But I have tested that drive here and not seen this problem. Also please make sure that you have all of the updates done for Chipset and for the Windows. If you have done all this and still have that problem, lets try and replace the drive or please test it in another system and se if the symptom follows the drive.
bbarker Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 Ram Guy: Thanks for your suggestions. I connected the drive on two other PCs (running Win XP Home) and the problem does not occur on them. After working with the problem on this PC for a while, I noticed that if I wait a minute or so after the drive icon appears, the volume name and drive letter eventually appear. So the real problem is delay. There is a lot of software installed on this PC, which I will have to take a close look at. Thanks again for your help.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted October 2, 2006 You might check for mall ware or spy ware on that system, http://www.trendmicro.com has a free scanner thats pretty good! But please let us know how you make out!
