vorbix Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I bought a pair of 1GB DIMMs two weeks ago and have been trying to get them to work. However, from my testing only one DIMM actually works and the other one just doesn't. When both DIMMs are used the motherboard doesn't even boot up. When using one DIMM at a time, only one of them works. I've tried various timings and voltage settings but to no avail. Overclockers UK say that I need to RMA it directly with Corsair, so here I am. I have three questions. 1) Will I have to send back both DIMMs. If so, I wont have a computer to use! 2) Will the replacement DIMM(s) be sent independently of my return or do you wait for the returned ones and only then send replacements. 3) On your http://tsxpress.corsairmemory.com/ the part name of my module is not listed: CM2X1024-6400. Is it the same as the TWIN2X1024A-6400, which is the closest match I can find. Many thanks indeed
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 19, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 19, 2006 First what are the bios settings you have set for CPU and memory? And you should set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts (+.3 Volts for the MB you have). And you will need to set the tested settings manually! Cas 5-5-5-15
vorbix Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Which BIOS settings in particular do you want to know about (when you say "CPU and memory")? I have tried the following timings: 5-5-5-12 5-5-5-15 5-5-5-18 The strange thing is that none of these seemed to make any difference for the working DIMM, i.e. it worked fine with all of them. For the one that doesn't work, I can't even get into the BIOS with it - i.e. I keep needing to change put the other DIMM in to make the changes in the BIOS. If they're meant to be matched, why should one work and not the other. Thanks for your help.

vorbix Posted September 23, 2006 Author Posted September 23, 2006 I tried the settings as you suggested. However, like before it didn't work. The system just doesn't boot. It just goes into the same continuous reboot cycle. What's more, things have taken a turn for the worse. After I took the faulty DIMM out I booted up the machine with the one working DIMM. The system seems to boot up, but at the point of loading Windows, reboots itself. It shows the Windows XP logo for a few seconds then reboots. I restored the memory and voltage settings to the defaults (which is how things were working previously), however, it continues to do the same thing. Reboots as its loading Windows. Needless to say I'm quite annoyed about this. I'm not sure whether the working DIMM is now become faulty or wether something else has gone awry with the system. I've wasted over two weeks now trying to get this memory to work, and I would appreciate it if you would initiate the RMA. Many thanks.

vorbix Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 Hi, I have managed to get my computer booting again. However, the problem DIMM still doesn't work. The working DIMM seems fine. I've run memtest and it ran for a few hours without errors. I really need to get the faulty DIMM replaced now. Please can you initiate an RMA. Thanks

nordle Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I also purchased dodgy RAM from overclockers uk two weeks ago, but according to their site if the claim is within 30 days then it should go through them not Corsair. If they tell me to contact Corsair it will be annoying as it took them 36 hours to aknowledge that I'd even contacted them at all (ocuk that is). Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
