Rapier
Recently bought some Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 ram modules. When i insert one of the sticks the system fails to boot and results in a blue screen, when i turn the dram frequency to 266 the system will boot but has aload of errors at startup and then proceeds to blue screen. This happens whenever the module is present within the system be it on its own or in dual channel, the other module works fine in single channel mode. Performed memtest and showed errors as well, also do i have to send both modules back even though only one is faulty, as i dont have any alternatives unfortunately. thanks in advance
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 18, 2006 Can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
Rapier
2.13 ghz, running at stock thats 8x266 - everything at stock at present, tried pushing the voltage upto 2.1 but again system fails and doesnt even get into windows. Memory timings according to cpu-z are 5-5-5-18 at the moment but also tried 5-5-5-
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 18, 2006 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. And please note with this MB you have to Disable legacy USB when running http://www.memtest.org.
Rapier
just tried both sticks at 5-5-5-12 @ 2.1, both get errors in memtest. according to the bios timings are being set to 5-5-6-15 by spd which allows one of the sticks to do memtest error free but the other still throws in errors
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 18, 2006 Getting errors with both modules would suggest some other problem, please get the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and then set the tested settings manually and disable legacy USB and test them again with http://www.memtest.org to be sure, or please test them in another system.
