scotty71 Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I ran Memtest86 and got over 175 errors in the test. I pulled out the Dimm from slot 3 and ran the test again...and again i got many errors. I then pulled the dimm from slot 1 out and put the dimm that was in slot 3 into slot 1 and ran Memtest..I got no errors after 2-3 tests. I then put the remaining dimm into slot 3 and again rI have the VS1GB400 kit in my IC7 G. My computer has been running normally with Windows Xp for near a year. I tried to install Windows Vista RC1 to my 2nd hard drive, yet the installation fails with a BSOD giving me stop errors and that I have memory problems. an the test and got the errors again. So I took the dimm from slot 3 out. Ran the test again..no errors. I then rebooted the computer and used the memory management test that is included with Windows Vista Beta 2. It got about 76% through the first test and told me that I have hardware problems and to contact the computer manufacturer to verify and resolve the problems. That will be hard since I built it. Why would Memtest not be giving me errors and Windows memory management test is? Can anyone suggest a 1GB kit with ECC that will work with the IC7 G and do I actually need it? Can anyone give any help on the matter of the ram tests.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 18, 2006 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, XMS2700C2 Cass 2-3-3-6 for example or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.
scotty71 Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Put the voltage to 2.7 and still get erorrs with one of the modules installed. Put it in both slot 1 and 2 and get errors both times. The other module put in slot 1 gave me 2-3 errors out of 4-5 tests. I am wondering if there is something else causing these errors as I have had no system instability and very few lockups, etc and I think that is due to ATI driver problems while capturing video. Taking a look at my system specs..do you see any hardware that could be contributing to these errors. Could system fans or the fact that the 12V P4 power running right over the ram slots cause these errors. Or is it most likely just a bad module. Thanks for your assistance.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 20, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 20, 2006 Your PSU should be fine with that config. What happens when you test the moduels one at a time? DO you get errors with both modules?
scotty71 Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 after putting the voltage to 2.7 With one of them I got errors right from the start of the test and I let the test go for a bit, but not for the whole test as I got errors with the same module with the voltage at 2.6. With the other module, after about 4-5 tests, I got 2-3 total errors, but I got those errors after I recieved these type errors below when the floppy was accessed, could that cause some of the errors. X:8000 AX:0212 BX:8600 CX:0201 DX:0000 What I think I'll do is do an overnight memtest starting tonight with one module at a time.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 21, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 21, 2006 How old is this MB? I seem to remember there was some voltage issue with this MB that was resolved with a rework. And the decription of the problem would suggest that issue. And has this system been working and it just started to display this issue. Or if this a new Build?
scotty71 Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 I bought the MB in Nov. 2004, but didn't get the system up and working till around may of 2005 as I waited for money and did my research on parts. The system is working and has been working good. I tried to install Windows Vista RC1 and It would fail and I would get the BSOD and the Vista installation tells me my system has memory problems. I went to Corsair website and found the memtest86 and downloaded it to floppy and on boot the program informed me of all the errors. The MB bios is up to date The system has been almost 100% stable and I mostly use it for internet and for video capture. However if these reported errors are for real, I would like to get them resolved. Thanks for your help Ram Guy!
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 21, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 21, 2006 Getting errors with both modules would suggest some other problem. The other module put in slot 1 gave me 2-3 errors out of 4-5 tests. And as I remember there was a rework for this MB on memory voltage I would check with Abit to make sure this MB does not have some problem that needs to be resolved. If you can I would suggest testing the modules with another system or MB to be sure.
scotty71 Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 Have no other machine to test the ram. Logged on to the Abit forums and asked about any voltage problems and a Mod responded with nothing about voltage problems with that board, but gave me advice about changing some settings for the Game Accelerator in the bios. I did that and last night with one stick(the good one?) in the machine, I ran Memtest for about 6 1/2Hrs. and got 12 errors, I am going to swap out the sticks and run the test again tonight after I go to bed. If it makes difference..the errors were all at either 376.5MB or 57MB
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 22, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 22, 2006 Let's get them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it, please note that you are posting from the forum!
scotty71 Posted October 3, 2006 Author Posted October 3, 2006 Ok. I got my RMA approved, but never go a number. I called today and got a number and was told I would receive an e-mail shortly with instuctions on returning the part, but I have yet to get that email. Ram Guy is there anything in that e-mail that I need to wait on, or can I just go ahead and send the part back in the morning to the address listed on this site? Thanks for your help!!
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 3, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted October 3, 2006 You will need the RMA number, I would call them back and let them know you never got the email 888-222-4346!
