Tooks Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Hi, I've been having Windows stability problems recently, and as part of trying to fix them, I've been running Memtest (both Dos & Windows versions) to see if it was the memory. I'm running 4 x 512MB sticks of RAM in my setup, consisting of two VS1GBKIT667D2 kits. I was getting memtest errors from the word go with all four sticks in, so I removed my newest pair of sticks leaving just 1GB, and ran the tests again, and still got the errors. I swapped the pairs over so I'm now running the other pair of sticks, and get no errors. So, it looks like one of my pairs has gone awry. Anything else I can test before I try to return them? Also, RMA'ing through my retailer here in the UK took 7 weeks last time, so would it be quicker for me to post them direct to Corsair? Many thanks for any help.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 18, 2006 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts (+.3 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, XMS2700C2 Cass 2-3-3-6 for example or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.
Tooks Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 Hi RAM GUY, thanks for the response! Basically, I've performed memtest at all voltages from 1.8 to 2.1v, and at the stock timings and slacker, and still one set of my matched modules are failing straight away. The other pair of matched modules are fine, so I don't believe it's a motherboard or other issue. I've got 2 pairs of DDR2 matched modules (4 x 512MB), and I understand that even if 1 stick in a pair is faulty, I should return the pair anyway so testing them individually seems unnecessary. One pair works, and one pair doesn't! Thanks for your suggestions, and I followed the guide in your link regarding RMA'ing. Corsair emailed me back today saying my RMA had been approved and a number would be issued within a day. Great service so far!
