tuckers Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 I need to upgrade the memory in a system with an Asus K8V SE Deluxe MB. I want to get as much RAM as possible on the MB. It takes PC3200 ram, and has three slots. I don't think I can fill more that two slot with PC3200 though. The manual says I can put in 1 GB sticks, but I wonder if I can now use 2GB sticks? The current memory is 2 512MB ECC ram. Is there an ECC ram you make I could use? In the many years I have built my own computers, I always found ECC memory to improve system stability if the motherboard supports it. What is the best ram product? Thanks!

Unfortunately, no Socket 754 CPU supports 2GB modules due to the limitation of its memory controller. What's more, 2GB unbuffered DDR1 modules are extremely rare -- and astronomically expensive (if you can even find one); nearly all 2GB DDR1 modules which have ever been manufactured are all registered modules (which will not work at all with your CPU or motherboard).
tuckers Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 So, I will have to stick with 1gb memory sticks. If I want to get to 3 Gigs, then I may have to use a slower ram, since it doesn't appear that this MB supports more than two sticks of PC3200 ? Does Corsair make a compatible ECC 1 GB stick?
RJLeong65 Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Does Corsair make a compatible ECC 1 GB stick? Only one such module - the CM72SD1024-3200.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 18, 2006 And make sure there is no "R" in the part# as this MB will not support registered memory!
tuckers Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 What is CL3? Is this something to do with ECC? BTW, what does ECC stand for? Is it Error Checking Cache? Thanks!
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 18, 2006 What does C2, LL, PT, R or RE stand for in the part#? ECC: What Is It, and Why Would I Pay Extra For It? Memory Basics Presentation! If you still have questions please let me know!
