Bored_Prophet Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 hi, i want to buy a new system with intel's core 2 duo and either the P5B deluxe or P5N SLI from asus. as i need lots of ram i have some memory related questions [memory will be value select pc2-5300 or TWIN2X2048-6400]. 1) are there any performance issues when using 4x 1gb ram on these two boards with win xp? 2) asus' qv-list shows the option of running 2 modules in slots 1&3 and 1 module in slot 2 in dual-channel mode if i got that right. is this 3rd module supposed to be the same size as the other two or double their size? 3) is there any reason to prefer this 3 modoule configuration over 2x2 modules?
Bored_Prophet Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 because i could really use them for 3d apps/rendering.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 18, 2006 You can run 2 modules or 4 but not three, you will loose Dual channel and with WinXP no application will have access to more than 2.0 Gig of memory. I would suggest you stay with one set of 2-1.0 Gig modules for best performance.
