argybargy Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I've got two sticksof XMS2700 256MB, and an now empty third slot on my motherboard (two previous posts describing some pain available), and I was wondering what would be the best part number to look for on a ecommerce site. I tried the memory configurator doodad page out of the FAQ and oddly, my mobo is too, too old to be on it. Specifically, the labels on both sticks (matched to minimize the recuring pain I was having) are CMX256A-2700C2 XMS2702v5.2 XMS2700 256MB 333 MHz 0539051-2 CL2 Although if one of them is a aserial number I obv didn't check that hard. The dust bunnies were attacking! TIA
argybargy Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 overlooked mentioning I want a stick of 512 or better 1024 to slap in that slot, sorry.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 14, 2006 I would suggest waiting till you are ready to upgrade your MB and just get new memory to match your new MB. Reason being if you buy memory to match what you have not it may not be compatible with a new system, and the performance of this MB may not be worth putting a bunch of money in this system that you cannot recoup. But if you just want it, I would suggest trying to find a module that will match the modules you have not CMX512-2700C2.
argybargy Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 I bought a pentium 120...next computer was the present athlon 1.33. I've probably got two more years on this box. :-)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 16, 2006 Corsair Employee Posted September 16, 2006 OK I understand but it might be expensive to try update that old of a system, and I am hesitant to suggest spending money on this system when its not upgradeable.
