quakenut
...a problem with RAM? I have an Asus A8V with DDR (400) 3200 - 1 GB (2 pcs 512) Corsair. Sometimes the computer doesn't recognize the hard drives...when it does...it takes a long time to boot. I've replaced the mb as per asus' suggestion. A friend told me that sometimes RAM and SATA hd's don't get along. Could it be a problem with a corrupt windows installation, since it takes so long to boot up?; a problem with the SATA cables?; even a processor problem? Thx all and hi. Wired
could be many things, but I've never heard of ram / sata compatibility issues. when it takes a while to boot, what part of the boot process is it at? does it say anything about raid boot or anything like that? quakenut
Right after it says WindowsXp the screen goes black for a few minutes (no hd activity), then the blue welcome screen shows up (hd activity), then on to desktop shortly afterwards. Nothing about RAID activity or anything like that.
Wired
sounds like windows issue. could be something in the startup. got to start -> run, type in msconfig, hit ok, select selective startup, uncheck load starup items. reboot, see if it helps
quakenut
I tried your startup suggestion, but had the same problem. I wonder if a repair windows installation would help? If I do a repair installation, will I have to reinstall anything else?
Wired
nope, everything should be intact after a repair of windows. May also want to try a system restore (before the repair).
quakenut
System restore has not been helpful. Interestingly enough, I changed my SATA cable from the mobo to the hd...and so far so good. I'm not holding my breath though, as I have been having trouble with the system over several months (both hd's crashing and video card going bad). Wish me luck, and many thanks! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 8, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 8, 2006 The sysptoms you have listed might also suggest a bad or noisy PSU. What is the make and model of your power supply?
quakenut
sorry for not checking back on this thread for awhile. The PSU is 550 watts, which came with an Amamax(?) case. I'm not sure the make of it though.
