bobus007
At the moment the ram i have is Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX, but one of the sticks is dead. I will have to return both sticks because they are a matched pair? I do not know how long it is going to take to get returned to me, but i know that i can not go for more than a few days with out a computer. So i was thinking about buying 1gig of ram to stick in while i am waiting. My question is, if i buy some cheap ram to keep me going will it be ok to still continue to use it once my fixed ram is sent back, so i would have 3gig in my system? many thanks
Garvin
Dual channel capable memory controllers are very picky about seeing matching IC's on the various sticks in order to run in dual channel mode. This is why if one stick is failing in a matched set both sticks are returned to get a matched set back. Some dual channel boards can run with three sticks however the memory controller will drop into the slower single channel mode to run them if it can run all three at all.
