newb with ddr500 twinx2048-4000pt

I'm trying to get the most out of my system without overclocking TOO much, but I have little knowledge with what I'm doing, and have the same feeling in my stomach as if I was on a roller coaster with rusty wheels.

 

My hardware

AMD X2 3800+ 2000Mhz

Arctic Cooling 64 Pro

MSI K8N Diamond Plus

NVidia Geforce 7600GT

2 x 1024 Corsair XMS DDR500 3-4-4-8 TWINX2048-4000PT

2 x 250GB SATA II Western Digital in RAID 0

160GB Maxtor SATA

500W Coolmax PSU

ASPIRE X-CRUISE Computer Case-w/Huge Newegg sticker

1 x BenQ DVD RW

 

 

So far

set my fsb to 250

brought cpu multiplier down to 8

changed ht frequencies to 800mhz

upped the ram voltage to 2.8

Are these on par for my hardware?

When my computer is booting up the boot screen shows ddr400

but the BIOS says ddr500, is that normal for my board?

 

Any suggestion on better performance?
