what makes ram faster

Recommended Posts

Hi im thinking about getting the 3500LLpro to replace my twinx2048 xms 3200cp2. my 3200 can get 210mhz on 2-3-3-6  so basically my question is what makes the ram go faster the spds? or the mhz? should i just change my spd and increase mhz or actually get 3500llpro that can handle a bit more mhz with better timings?

thanks

ok these are some results i found from sandra lite 2007 i did memory bandwidth test

2.5-3-3-6 @210mhz (420)

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff'd iSSE2 : 5567 MB/s

RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 6236 MB/s <~ got that once? avg = 5534

3-4-4-8 @210mhz (420)

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff'd iSSE2 : 5469 MB/s

RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 5497 MB/s

3-4-4-8 @218(436)

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff'd iSSE2 : 5695 MB/s

RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 5689 MB/s

2.5-3-3-6@218 (436) 2.75v

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff'd iSSE2 : 5844 MB/s

RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 5832 MB/s

are these any good? should i get 3500LLPRO will performance be the same?

plus how did i manage to get RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 6236 MB/s ?? i cant seem to get that high again. that was @ 210mhz. only thing i can think of was i ran the benchmark after playing bf2 for 1hr?

Thanks David

That 6236 was an aberration. You should always benchmark on a freshly rebooted system.

You should be able to get higher FSB speeds with the 3500LL's, with relaxed timings (at least right now, there's no such thing as 1GB modules that can run stably over ~225MHz at 2-2-2-5 1T), and assuming your CPU, power supply etc can handle the extra speed, power and cooling requirements.

If you have an Intel-based system, you'll get better performance by focusing on the FSB and not worrying about relaxed timings.

i have a x2 4200+ and asus a8n32-sli

btw my system is unstable @ when i increase it to 218 my cpu becomes 2.4 and with memory @ 2.5-3-3-6. i can play bf2 for like 15mins and my pc freezes. i ran mem test (1 loop) w/ 0 errors, however i found it strange that when the ram was @ 218 if i tried to press C to configure and select a diff test my pc would just reboot if i press any key during memtest. im not sure if its my cpu or mem. i increased v on cpu a tiny bit, ill try a to goto 1.4 but i wouldnt think i need 1.4 on a 200mhz oc? and i kept ram @ 2.75v. so i dont know if its ram or my cpu thats unstable.
