Help with bad memory?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've recently had a problem with my 2 512 corsair valueselect pc3200 chips. At first my computer became very unstable and would start freezing up. Eventually it got worse and worse and I received an error message saying "page fault in nonpaged area" I read on various forums that this could be an issue with the RAM. When I tried to reinstall windows, I would get "irql not less or equal" or it will hang. Even when I try to run repair console, the computer will hang. I tried using 1 chip at a time and nothing worked. I also switched banks from 1 and 3 and put it into 2 and 4, still no luck. Is my memory bad? I haven't changed any bios settings for my ram, so I don't know what to do exactly. Any suggestions before I fill out an RMA?

Thanks!!

Please make sure that you have the latest bios for your MB and then load optimized defaults and set the timings to "BY SPD" or "AUTO" and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! Please allow memtest to run 2-3 passes on each module. If you still get errors, we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.

My mobo bios has been updated, and all ram settings in the bios are set to automatic. I ran memtest on 1 512 module at a time, and both modules passed the test 3 times. I then tested the 2 512mb modules together, and they both passed the tests fine with no errors like all the other previous tests. However I still receive the same error message about "page fault in nonpaged area" Is there any other possible issue involved?

Thank you
