Bad RAM - System dead

Recommended Posts

first my hardware list:

- Asus A8V-E Deluxe Bios Rev. 1012

- 2 Modules Corsair CMX512-3200C2 v1.4

- 2 Modules Corsair CMX512-3200C2 v4.2

- AMD XP 64 3000+ Winchester CPU

- Win XP Pro

- Leadtek Winfast GF6600GT

My System ran stable since I added the 2 new modules of ram (marked red).

The RAM is listed in the compatibility list of my mainboard.

I just bought them to my birthday.

I put them into the 2 free slots.

The System started and i got one bluescreen after an other.

There were over 5 different messages by bluescreen.

I even couldn't reinstall WinXP.

This crashed my Raid 0 settings an so I'm at the moment recovering the lost

partitions (after I removed the two new modules of RAM)

Without them everything runs normal (excepted my crashed Raid).

So I was not able to run memtest!

I don't want to contact my reseller because of bad support.

My Bios settings are correct.

The other RAM modules are working since the beginning of 2005 - no problems. With the new "bad" modules I testet different settings for example

latency, voltage, clocking but nothing seems to solve the problem.

2 new (bad) modules (1024 TwinX 3200C2)

XMS3202v4.2 0613089-1

XMS3202v4.2 0613089-1

I hope I'll get fast support that I could change this ones.

PS.: Sorry for my bad language - I'm from Germany!

First thing, I am sorry but with this MB all of the modules would need to be exactly matched, this is a limitation of the memory controller in the CPU.

Second thing, With the CPU you have if you install more than 2 double sided modules you would have to set the memory frequency to DDR333 at 2t Command Rate and I would set the timings to CAS 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.8 Volts as well.

I would see if your reseller will let you send the modules back you just got and find another use for the old memory you have and then just order a set of Twinx2048-3200C2 instead for best performance.

Thank you for your help,

As soon as my lost partitions are recovered I will try to test your suggested settings!

I thought I tried also with 333 and 2T settings but I'll try again!

I will report soon if your settings work...

Edit: Sorry but wth means all modules have to be matched?

These are all testet RAM-sticks which match and are suggested by asus?

now i remember the memory controller issue ^^.

I decided to buy 2 matched 1024MB modules: 2028 TWINX 3200C2...

..an you can ensure that 2 of these modules will work right.

the Systems was overclocked so that the memory will run at

2,75V and 234MHZx2 means 468MHZ and 2,5-3-3-7 timings?

Thanks a lot - good support here!
