h4zard
I am having trouble with my 2 sticks of Corsair CMX512-3200c2. One is labeled XMS3202v3.2, while the other is XMS3202v1.1. When I try to use them in dual channel mode (in slots 1 and 3, the blue slots) my system will not boot. The only configuration I can get them to boot in is with the sticks in slots 2 and 3. In this case, my BIOS (revision 1017, I have tried earlier revisions as well) reports that I have only 512mb of RAM installed. I have searched the forums and have tried setting up my BIOS with the optimal settings (3-3-3-6, 2.7 voltage, Legacy USB off, AGP Aperature 128mb, etc.) but to no avail. I have tried other memory settings (2.5-3-3-6, 3-3-3-8, 2.5-3-3-8, all with both 2.7v and 2.8v, but this doesn't help either. cpu-z reports that I have 1024mb of RAM, but that one module is running at 200mhz while the other is running at only 166mhz. When I put the v3.2 stick in by itself, cpu-z reports that I have 512mb of RAM running at 200mhz. When I put the v1.1 stick in by itself, cpu-z reports that I have 512mb of RAM running at 166mhz, despite its label of PC3200. Is it possible that the v1.1 stick is faulty? Thanks in advance for any help.
Wired
sounds like you're reading the SPD tab, not the memory tab. IGNORE the SPD TAB. FYI, it's never recommended to mix versions for reasons just like you're mentioning.
h4zard
Just to clarify, with both sticks in cpu-z reports that I have 1024mb of RAM total, but both BIOS and Windows show that I only have 512mb. Thanks
h4zard
Ok on the cpu-z Memory tab with both sticks in it says 1024mb, Frequency 157.3mhz, CAS 2.5, RAS to CAS 3, RAS 3, Tras 6, Trc 10, DRAM Idle 16, Command Rate 2T. I bought the two sticks at different times hoping that they would work together in dual channel and I realize the different version numbers is why they won't, but still shouldn't the v1.1 stick be running at 200mhz instead of ~166mhz regardless? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 6, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 6, 2006 With this MB all of the modules you use would need to be exactly matched both in part# and revision, sorry but this is a limitation of the memory controller in the CPU. h4zard
Actually I have a pair of VS512MB400 Value Select sticks lying around and when I put them both in with the pair of CMX512-3200c2 sticks cpu-z reports 2048mb of ram running at ~157mhz, but Windows and BIOS only detect 1.5gb. And I'm still wondering why when I put the v1.1 stick in by itself it only runs at 157mhz instead of at 200mhz like it should.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 6, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 6, 2006 More than likely the Ver 1.1 module was made before January of 2003 and used the PC-2700 SPD since there was no JEDEC spec for DDR400 till that time. h4zard
So does that mean it's actually running at 200mhz like it should?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 7, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 7, 2006 If thats what you have you would need to manually set the memory frequency and timings.
h4zard
I have a pair of identical Corsair Value Select VS512MB400 PC3200 sticks in my Asus A8V Deluxe (latest BIOS, 1017) with an Athlon 64 3500+. In BIOS/Windows only 512mb is detected instead of the full 1024mb. All settings are correct in BIOS as far as I can tell (2:1 - 200mhz (DDR400), 3-3-3-8). When I run cpu-z, it detects memory size as 1024mb, but the Frequency is only 157.3mhz. Both sticks function correctly if I run them by themselves. Any ideas? Wired
were the VS bought at the same time?
h4zard
They were bought at the same time, and are identical in both model, version, etc.
