Flanno
Running an Asus P5N32-Sli with an Intel 965 3.73EE at 1066fsb. Which would offer better performance ? Both are compatible with my board according to the configurator. Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-8500C5 TwinX 5,5,5,15, 1066mhz Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C3 TwinX 3,4,3,9, 800mhz I wonder does the 6400C3 have the capability of reaching close to 1066mhz with looser timings ? I also wonder does latency really effect Intel cpu's or is it all about fsb ? Going to purchase tommorrow so need to find out which to go for. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 2, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 2, 2006 I would suggest our Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C3 Twin2x 3,4,3,9, 800mhz! We use the same IC to build both parts, but I doubt the XM2S-8500 will run tight timings. And XM2S-6400C3 is dominating all of the bench marks right now; the record in 3D Mark 2005 is with our XM2S-6400C3 modules installed.
Flanno
Thanks for the info. 6400C3 it is then. Just wondering though - because the 8500C5 would be running at 1066mhz and in sync with my cpu's fsb, even at 5,5,5,15 - would that not give better memory throughput then the 6400C3 which would be running at tighter timings but at over 200mhz less ? Just curious.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 2, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 2, 2006 Like I said XM2S-6400C3 will more than likely run at 8500C5 settings so you can find out for your specific system configuration for your self.
Flanno
Doh..of course. I guess it's 1.30am here and I didn't read your reply properly. Thanks a milion.
Flanno
Went with your advice and ordered the 6400C3. Should be here on Tuesday. Can't wait :) Can you tell me what the recommended memory voltage is with my board ? On another note, one other strange thing I have seen on this board with Corsair value PC5300 memory is that the bios reports 667mhz as expected, but CPU-Z reports the memory running at 166mhz. I would have expected it to be 333mhz since it is dual channel. But the benchmarks in Sandra seem to be fine. Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted June 2, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 2, 2006 Thats a bug in the software its running correct! And I would set the memory voltage to 2.1 Volts with a minimum of 1.9 Volts.
