Gigabyte GA-8N SLI & DDR2 XMS2-8500 TwinX

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Sort of newbie bere - have not messed about with a system sice I last built an AMD 3200XP which was top of the range then so things have moved on and I have forgotten more than I ever knew!

I need some help and advice. I have just brought a Gigabyte GA-8N SLI Royal which states it supports 1066Mhz FSB.

I also brought Corsair XMS2 DDR2 XMS2-8500 TwinX (2x512mb) which is stated to run at 1066Mhz. (I think you will gues where this is going......)

Problems: Post screen reports speed as 800Mhz. I cannot use the on board utilities to increase this at all - the "Cruise - Full thrust(!!) options all result in no boot with a boot to default settings. ANYTHING I do to try and increase spped or settings results in a freeze or failed boot.

Have I got the wrong memory (The configarator suggests TWIN2X1024A-5400UL / DDR2-675 (XM2S-5400UL) / 3-3-2-8 as best for overclocking or TWIN2X2048-6400PRO / DDR2-800 (XM2S-6400) / 5-5-5-12 as most popular.

Problem is both are at 800Mhz.

Is there anyway I can get 1066 out of this board??

,many thanks and sorry for legnth of first post.
