Twin2048-3200C2 and DFI Expert

Recommended Posts

I completed installation of all my hardware and the OS (XP Pro SP2) on my new Expert.

It will only run with one Corsair Twin2048_3200C ram stick.

I tested both sticks from the Dimm 2 slot and they pass memtest86 as single channel.

When both are installed per manual on DIMM2 & 4 (Orange) I get a screen lock on boot.

On another post someone tried DIMM1 & 3 (Yellow) but all I got was a recycling post.

It could not even load memtest86.

Another member has my ram and said it works on the Expert.

Am I missing something obvious or do I need to consider different ram?

Can you clarifiy?

Is there a test that can be run on the CPU to confirm this?

The RAM worked on my ASUS board and is also in the recommended list for the new DFI Expert.

Everything else is working on the new board, but the two ram sticks.

DFI support feels it could be the ram needs "special" setting that should be given by Corsair.

The posted settings for this ram are 2-3-3-6 at 2.75v

I will try these setting and reinstall the second stick to see what happens.

Followup......Second stick detected.....failed memtest86 when set to 2-3-3-6 & the default of 3-3-3-8

Pass 40% Test 46% Test #5 (block move 64move) Well Time 13.07 Red scrolled items and lockup.

What are my options?

I finally got the two sticks to boot, but after running a short time the OS fails.

I did try memory in the different slots, but they only loaded in 2 & 4.

When running Memtest86 they fail after 13 min. big time.

I am at work and do not have the specific failure data, but I think it was at 46% and test #5.

We may need to RMA or think about why these modules do not work in the DFI Expert.

I did print the posted spec's from Corsair and tried the 2-3-3-6 1T setting and it got worse.

Everything I read says to set at 1T, but will follow suggestion.

I completed my CPU testing for MAX OCing and got to 2750mhz on a AMD 4200+.

When I tried to adjust the RAM I can't get the two installed. With them connected in slots 2 & 4(recommnended) I now get three LED errors and beeps at boot. I removed the stick and swapped them and singlely they do boot.

So does that mean its the MOBO or can it still be a possible RAM issue or both?

We make no mention of Commad Rate in the tested settings for this module.

In addition, Command Rate is not really a memory setting and would be dependant on the make and model of MB and PSU and the specific CPU you have installed. You might look this setting up on http://www.rojakpot.com and get a better explanation.

Testing parameters for TWINX3200C2:

TWINX2048-3200C2 Data Sheet

TWINX1024-3200C2 Data Sheet

TWINX512-3200C2 Data Sheet

Motherboard make and model: Asus P4C800/-E and/or DFI INFINITY I865/I875 and/or Asus A7N8X and/or ABIT IC7 Max3.

Each pair is tested and packaged together using the following settings:

DRAM Clock: 200 MHz

DRAM Voltage: 2.7X Volts

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T (2.5 on AMD platform)

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

SDRAM Bank Interleave: 4 Bank

All other settings are motherboard defaults.

We can try changing the modules, but if they work in another MB its probably the MB and or Bios.

Please make sure you have the latest BIOS installed for your MB (download the Beta version) and load optimized defaults settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

TwinX512 or Twinx1024-3200Xl

Genie BIOS/DRAM Configuration

DRAM Frequency Set: 2:1 or 400MHz or 200 (if option are 133/166/200)

Command per Clock: Enabled

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T

And leave the rest at AUTO setting

Genie BIOS

FSB BUS Frequency: 200

LDT/FSB Frequency ratio: 5X

LDT Bus Transfer Width: 16 16

CPU/FSB Frequency ratio: Auto

PCI Ex: 100

K8 cool N’ quiet: Disable

CPU VID Start Up Value: 1.55 (Depends On CPU Core)

CPU VID Control: 1.55 (Depends On CPU Core)

CPU VID Special Control: Auto

Chipset Voltage Control: 1.6

DRAM Voltage Control: 2.8

All other settings are motherboards defaults

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

Thanks for the information.

I RMA'ed the DFI Expert motherboard and that should finally determin the solution.

The system should boot with default setting in BIOS, but if not I will follow your recommended setting ASAP.

Yes but you will need to use these settings after you load setup defaults and install the modules in slots 2-3.

CPU Freq: 166 MHz

System Performance: User Define

Memory Frequency: 100%

Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts

Resulting Frequency: 166MHz

Memory Timings: Manual/User Define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

I finally received my RMA'ed DFI Expert Motherboard and installed.

Followed your instructions and settings and it still will not work with both RAM sticks in the correct slots 2 & 4.

They detect, but will not boot into OS regardless if I go all defaults or with BIOS settings as instructed.:(:

I can only run one (1) stick and get into my OS.

What are my options here?

I like Corsair, but if these modules will not work in tandium with my motherboard, There has to be ones that will work. I am willing (if possible) to pay for an upgrade if that's what it takes to make this configuation work.

Do you need any more information?
