HP Pavilion A1350N + VS1GBKIT400

I installed the VS1GBKIT400 memory into an HP Pavilion A1350N desktop. The system originally had 2 x 512MB DIMMs, running at 400mhz. When I installed these two Corsair parts, the memory speed decreased to 333mhz.

The bios does not allow me to tweak timings, as far as I can tell. HP is reselling an Asus motherboard, labelled as A8AE-LE.

I'd like to understand why these Corsair parts decrease the memory speed to 333mhz.

Thanks for your help

Quentin

You're mixing memory, which may cause it, also that CPU's got an older memory controller which will automatically drop the memory speed when running more than 2 sticks.

All the memory is supposed to be PC3200 -- so no mixing of speeds.

The Athlon64 memory controller will run 4 dimms at 400Mhz according to AMD and to my experience.

Should I return the Corsair parts for functional parts?

Thanks
