CMX512-3200C2 module stops post

Recommended Posts

RamGuy,

I had been running a set of Twin CMX256-3200C2 for about 20 months without any issues. I added a CMX512-3200C2 module about 6 months ago and a few sporatic problems started. Starting having blank screen boot issues over the last few months. No video, no post beep..just the 2 optical drives resetting over and over for a few minutes. Normally it would clear after a few power resets. Also, the machine would also reboot if playing memory intensive games. I finally pulled the machine apart today and did the motherboard, video card, power supply and stick of memory test. Thought I was fighting an issue with the Radeon 9800 but it did the same thing with a different video card. Narrowed it down to the 512MB stick....After I put it back together, the machine failed to boot into XP until I removed the 512MB module. Also, at one point I was thinking of rebuilding XP Pro...but it failed with a unexpected error (0) in line 1768 (d:\\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c on the build attempt. Weird part was that it passed a few passes on the memtest86. Is there anything else I should try before I RMA this module?

Thanks Mark

RamGuy,

On my twin 256mb modules:

CMX256A-3200C2 XMS3202v1.2

0406089

XMS3200 256MB 400Mhz CL2

Read your post on the memtest86. I started testing the 512MB module by itself in the system. Getting errors in test #5. What other error information on the memtest86 do you need to diagnose further?

Thanks Mark

RamGuy,

The twin 256mb have the exact part # and rev # (see below). I tested both individually in the same slot as the 512MB was tested. Both tested clean in a 15-20 minute memtest86 test. 512MB module is failing memtest86 every time. The last test had over 500,000 errors.

Modules Installed:

TWIN (2x256MB) modules (exactly the same)

CMX256A-3200C2 XMS3202v1.2

0406089

XMS3200 256MB 400Mhz CL2

512MB Module

CMX512-3200C2 - XMS3202v1.5

0518123-0

XMS3200 512MB 400MHz CL2

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Mark
