a8n sli deluxe / twinx 1Gb 3200c2pt / twinx 2Gb 3200pt

hi,

 

i actually have an a8n sli deluxe motherboard s939 nforce4 / amd 4400+ x2 / twinx 1024 xms 3200c2pt

 

after having read most of the posts on this forum, and also the corsair website, i have some questions :

 

1 - what's the correct CAS for my motherboard : 2 or 2.5 ?

i've read on the corsair site that the correct cas with my ram for amd based chipset is 2.5 and 2 for intel, and i've also read that the current amd64 processors will work with cas2 .....

Actually it works with 2.3.3.6-1T

With everest 2.20.405 i get these results :

2.5-3-3-6-2T / 2.7v : write : 5035 / read : 1708 / latency : 63.1ns

2-3-3-6-1T / 2.75v : write : 5150 / read : 2203 / latency 62ns

 

the settings 2-3-3-6-1T should be fine, but are they 100 % compatible with my material ?

i also wonder of the "read" results that jump from 1708 to 2203 ; is this caused by getting from 2T to 1T ?

 

To finish , i can get a twinx 2048 xms 3200pt (3-3-3-8) pair of rams and could pass from 1Gb to 2Gb but i think those pairs have less performance than the twinx xms 1024 3200c2pt, and i dont know at which values they can be set.

so, what do you think is the best, 1Gb of ram with twinx 1024 xms 3200c2pt or twinx 2048 xms 3200pt (2 Gb could be better for multitask i think..)

so,

 

i've tested with memtest for 30 minutes and got no errors (2-3-3-6-1T / 2.75v) with the twinx 1024 xms 3200c2pt

 

but i'd like to know your opinion about these 2 possibilities :

 

twinx 1024 xms 3200c2pt with 2-3-3-6-1T / 2.75v

or

twinx 2048 xms 3200pt with i think 3-3-3-8-2T (or are those pairs able to run at lower latencies ?)

A: CAS 2.0 should be stable with this MB and CPU as long as you have a strong enough PSU.

 

2 for intel, and i've also read that the current amd64 processors will work with cas2 .....

A: Command Rate is not really a memory setting and would be dependant on the make and model of MB and PSU and the specific CPU you have installed. You might look this setting up on http://www.rojakpot.com and get a better explanation. However, that does not mean it will not work, just that in some cases the system may not be stable at 1T CR, and for sure if you use 4 modules 2T Command Rate would be suggested.

 

Bottom line:

It would be best to replace what you have not with one 2 Gig matched set of modules if you need to have 2.0 Gig of memory

sorry i dont understand this line ...

 

does it mean it would be better to install 2x1Gb twinx xms 3200pt or keep the twinx 1024 xms 3200c2pt taht i currently have on my motherboard ?:confused:

 

are the twinx2048 xms 3200pt able to rum lower than 3-3-3-8 (those settings are written on the sticker of the modules)

You cannot mix memory with this platform, so it would be best to replace what you have for a 2 Gig set of modules. If you can afford it I would suggest Twinx2048-3200C2 if you need 2.0 Gig of memory.

these results are quite the same than those i obtained with the twinx1024 3200c2pt (read : 5150 / write : 2203 / latency : 62ns)

 

so i think i will keep the twinx 2048 3200pt with those settings

If you can get your TWINX2048-3200PT working stably at tighter-than-rated timings, then more power to you!
