Ms Markovich,

I installed the new stick of ram you people sent me, and had problems with it.

I started the installation process by raising the room humidity with a vaporizer, placed the computer and ram package on a padded static proof mat, and attached the wrist strap to the mat. The new Ram from you people was installed next to a stick of an identical model of corsair ram already in the machine.

The machine booted and ran, but developed misc blue screen crashes (running windows 2000, SP4) over the next week. After checking other things, a series of memory tests were run. Microsoft "Windiag" was run first, and in routine "Stride 38" (cache on) reported errors at "02A2FA50". Next, the machine was booted from the "Ultimate Boot CD" 3.2, and memtest-86 v3.2 was run. It (test #8) would accumulate about 573 errors and then halt with "unexpected interrupt". This was run repeatedly, and the pattern was for about 192 errors to suddenly pop up at around 968 MB, with 356 errors to occur in a block shortly after. This soon locked up (unexpected interrupt).

This is on an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo, with bios settings for ram set to "auto" (no overclocking or altered settings), and one other identical stick of your ram. All above tests were run on the remaining ram after the new stick was removed, and showed none of the above errors.

I would like to return the bad stick of memory for a replacement.

Thank you,

Jeffrey Witkin

memtest-86 v3.2 is very old. Test one stick at a time in each slot using Memtest86+ (v1.65 is the latest version). Try upping the voltage to 2.7x or 2.8 volts (warrantied up to, but not over, 2.90 volts).

Also, don't post your phone number on a forum unless you like pranksters and the like.
