stackoverflow
Hello, I want to go for 2 GB Corsair Value select. The 512 MB timings are 2.5-3-3-8 and 1GB timings are 3-3-3-8. It seems that the 512MB will be slightly faster. Should I go for 4 x 512MB dimms or 2 x 1GB DIMMS. Does having 4 dimms have any impact on data fetch? How much will be the performance impact in case of 1GB DIMMs
CMC_SAVAGE
I'd go with 2x1GB. (less is better). Timings aside, 4 sticks may only run at 2T. More importantly, depending on your CPU core, 4 stick might only run at 333MHz.
Wired
Agreed, 2 sticks for sure will be faster.
stackoverflow
Thanks a lot for the info. I forgot to mention that I am buying A64 3000+ venice one more query is how to ensure that the RAM is run in dual channel mode and also is corsair VS1GB400C3 can run on 1T timings? Garvin
Running the ram in dual channel mode is dictated by which slots on your board you place them in, need to check your board's manual for the correct dual channel mode slots to place them in. The two 1gig sticks will run at a command rate of 1T as long as they're a matched set/2gig kit.
