smpltxt
I have checked my Corsair XMS 512 chips i bought off of newegg.com through several diagnostic programs and in another computer and have confirmed that they are bad. I would like to replace them. How would i go about getting an rma number or putting through a request after this step?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 1, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 1, 2006 Please load setup/optimized defaults and then set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, XMS2700C2 Cass 2-3-3-6 for example or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. smpltxt
It's in a brand new system and it boots but when i try and install the os it freezes. When i used diagnostic sodtware that comes packaged with a recently bought seagate HD, it fails the memory test. I've tried it in another functioning system and when its installed that system won't even boot to windows so i can't exactly use memtest but all that pretty much confirms it being a bad part. I've tested all my other parts and they are fine.
Wired
Never heard of a HDD coming with a memory testing program, only a HDD testing program. You can take memory that works fine and place it in another system and it won't work at all due to reasons other than bad memory. What is the exact part # and version # of your memory? How To Read the Memory Label Test one stick at a time in each slot using Memtest86+. What timings / voltage is your memory currently set to? smpltxt
Yea i found it odd too but Seagate drives come with a memory test that does basically what memtest does...just doesn't tell you EXACTLY whats wrong; It just gives it a pass or fail. For the record i have CMX512-3200C2PT XMS3202v5.2 ram. I've explored every other possible problem and i've even RMA'd a motherboard in favor of a different one all with the exact same results. No other components have any problems. The memory is the only thing it could be
Wired
Again, memory can "fail" a memory test due to problems other than the memory, for example, a bad memory controller, or simply not being seated all the way in the slot. I'd HIGHLY recommend running memtest86+ as noted above. Besides, Corsair's closed till Monday, and it'll be done way before then. Now, in order to tell you what timings / voltage are appropriate for your memory, what is the part # / version # of each stick? How To Read the Memory Label
smpltxt
i have CMX512-3200C2PT XMS3202v5.2 ram. I believe the correct timing (or at least the timing the site i bought it from sold it as) was 2-3-3-6. Again, memory can "fail" a memory test due to problems other than the memory, for example, a bad memory controller, or simply not being seated all the way in the slot. i've suspected that and have checked the seating of the chips, other memory, put the chips in other systems; all of that. I know i need fresh chips. if you could also tell me how to run memtest outside of windows, it'd help as installing the memory makes windows inaccessible. smpltxt
It has been over 10 days since i made this post. I have taken all the steps to request an RMA and i have yet to receive a response. Waited 2 days through the online form, 2 more through warranty@corsairmemory.com and 2 more through rma@corsairmemory.com and still no response. Some of these were over weekends. I really don't want to go through any song and dance with corsair. I just want new working chips. I have heard great things about the Corsair brand which is why i bought these in the first place. Please give me a response
