Faulty memory chip

I purchased 2 sticks of CMX1024-3200C2PT on 7/13/05, and installed them in my system. Yesterday, my machine exhibited a memory dump error, then wouldn't boot. The motherboard gave me a memory error with the bios beep codes. I removed 1 stick, and the machine worked fine. I then replaced that stick with the other stick, and the machine wouldn't boot. Therefore, one of my sticks is bad. The machine works fine without that "bad" stick in the sytem, and it was working ok for months before it started showing bizarre errors recently. I thought it was software, but I now know it was a faulty memory stick. How do I go about getting warranty service? Thanks for your time.

Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, XMS2700C2 Cass 2-3-3-6 for example or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.

Hi RAMGUY, thanks for the response. I would try the memory tests, however, the system will not boot even to the bios with the "problem" stick, whether alone or with another stick. I've tried clearing the CMOS and running defualt safe values, but the system won't boot with the "problem" chip installed. If I install the chip, all the machine will do is beep the code for a memory error over and over, and never get to the bios. As soon as I take it out, it boots fine.

 

The system has been up and running since August, this just happend out of the blue. The system has been running on "set values by SPD" since I got it. I use all conservative values for everthing since this is my work machine, and stability takes precedence with it. Normally I wouldn't think memory could just die out of the blue like this, but I have tested another Corsair stick of the same model/version in it, and it works fine.

Thanks for the reply RAM GUY. I have question though. I really can't afford to have my work machine down for several days, but from reading that link, it's recommended that I swap both sticks. Are there any options of getting the RAM sent first, if payed for somehow like with CC, and then sending the bad ram back to get reimbursed for the money? Thanks RAM GUY.
