itchytickles
I have a pair of 512MB corsair twinx xms3200 modules, purchased less than a year ago. They were excellent up until a week or two ago when i began to notice something was wrong. When i play memory heavy games, or run memory heavy applications such as video encoding, my computer just restarts randomly, and also occasionaly i get a BSOD saying something about a memory dump. I ran memtest and to my surprise there were no errors after 1 pass; also i updated my BIOS to the current version, however i continued to try to encode and play games and the problem still persists. I switched out the corsair ram and put in another module i had spare. Voila! the game runs fine, video encoding is fine, no crashes since i switched. I then put in the two corsair modules and tried again, boom; restart. I am running an athlon 64 3400+ with an Abit AV8 (socket 939). I strongly beleive i need to RMA these modules, however if anyone can suggest something else, please do.:sigh!:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2006 Can you tell me our modules part# (How To Read the Memory Label) and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
itchytickles
i have the CMX512-3200C2PT XMS3202V.15 2x512. i have an Abit AV8 socket 939 motherboard with the VIA K8T800 chipset, with an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ NewCastle core. The FSB is 1600mhz i beleive. All the BIOS settings are default, and i have never changed any voltage settings, or tried to overclock anything. Everything has been set to default since i got the RAM. As i said it worked perfectly up until about a few weeks ago.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2006 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/modules one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. itchytickles
I set the voltages to 2.7 and to the correct timings, and still the problem persists. Random restarts, ect. I ran memtest but it reports there are no errors. I put the RAM in a different computer and tried to accomplish the same tasks as before (running the game i play, and video encoding) and the computer restarts, the same as my personal machine. Obviously something is wrong, so i will proceed to fill out the RMA form.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 31, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 31, 2006 If you are not getting errors in memtest that would suggest some other problem. But I have no problem replacing your modules. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
